Paige Tico & Veteran Turret Gunner

By Elbastido, in X-Wing Rules Questions

What is everyone's thoughts about this interaction?

I have Paige Tico and a Veteran Turret Gunner aboard the Starfortress and it pulls up alongside an enemy ship. It's bowtie mobile arc is pointed to the sides like so:

L< >R --- Enemy Ship

The StarFortress fires it's first shot at the enemy ship with the Right mobile arc.

Can Paige then activate to swap the arcs like so:

R< >L --- Enemy Ship

To fire the Left mobile arc out the right side to double tap the enemy ship?

It's 15 points, so probably not a cost effective combo, but thought it could be interesting....

No, you can't do this. The rules specify that when you rotate a bowtie arc, you must rotate to the opposite configuration (i.e. from side-to-side to front-and-back or vice versa).

Rotate, p.19 of rules reference:

Quote

• If a ship rotates a double turret arc indicator, it must select the other two standard arcs it was not already selecting.

Interesting theory, but, unless the base tile rotates with the turret indicator, it's still actually L<>R . not R<>L.

The Indicator is showing where the weapons are facing, designating which quadrant(s) of a ship base are active firing arcs.

However, for side to front/rear coverage, that would work. It's also fun to think of something like this. If you can catch a ship in two different quadrants, then you can double tap it after rotating your arc.

That's cool, thanks guys!

Just to expand/clarify on what @nexttwelveexits said: if your target is straddling the line of your firing arc you could rotate to the fore/aft position and double tap?

This would only be a little more difficult than getting bullseye...

Yup.

To further clarify; you wouldn't need to rotate the turret if the enemy is straddling the fore and side quadrants, as the Starfortress has a forward primary arc in addition to the primary turret... so this interaction is only relevant when the enemy is straddling your rear and side arcs.

What about if you use your primary to attack out front and your arcs are set to L/R, using Paige to rotate F/B and then double tapping same target with VTG?

Works fine.
