I imagine it went something like this...
FFG Dude 1: "So, the Falcon. We got Rey, Han, Chewie, and this generic guy. So who's sharing a back?"
FFG Dude 2: "That's sticky. The Resistance is already a small faction. I'd hate to limit their options if we don't have to."
FFG Dude 1: "And we kinda have to allow them to run 2 generics. I mean, that's what generics are..."
FFG Dude 2: "That makes 5... if it's not 4, I suppose it should be 6."
FFG Dude 1: "Or we could give BB-8 a pilot card."
FFG Dude 2: "Don't be ridiculous. Look, the only logical thing is to have 3 baseplates: Rey, Han, and Chewie on 3, with generics backing them."
FFG Dude 1: "So then they're gonna have a 3rd generic they can never field?"
FFG Dude 2: "The points can change, dude. Just throw a 3rd card in there. Cards are cheap."
FFG Dude 1: "But the maneuver dial..."
FFG Dude 2: "...yeah, we kinda gotta put one of those in there too..."
FFG Dude 1: "I mean, we could cut Evade tokens. Maybe shields."
FFG Dude 2: "Yeah, do that!"
Maybe the generic will be 2 threat on the quick build card?

Yeah, after all the bull cashgrabs concerning generic pilots in other conversion kits I can't imagine anyone at FFG saying that.

hmmm.... wonder what his diet plan was.
Any thoughts on price drops for Imperial TIEs after January? Mining Guild TIE sits at 24 while the Academy Pilot is 23. The ignore asteroids ability has to cost more than one point. I can see howlrunner dropping 1 point to allow an 8 TIE swarm or Academies dropping one point, enough to allow an 8 TIE Howlswarm with a hull upgrade on Howlrunner.

Not likely. The dial change (red 5, no 4 k) + Notched Stabilizers (which only affects movement through asteroids ) fits for a 1 point increase. If you think facing them is going to be a problem in your TIE/Lns, bring 3 debris clouds.

You can fit 5 TIE/sf in a list with 30 points left for upgrades.

Just add in shield upgrade on them all and call it a day.

Seriously I can see that working just fine, a 2 point discount for a salvaged YT-1300 is not that big deal.

Sure, but I figured that I’d be able to do 5 low I ships with the gunner. Without the gunner it doesn’t feel so SF-y to me.
Who knows, perhaps 5 with shield will be awesome...just not what I anticipated.
Very Happy to see the option for Epsilon Squadron to ride again - now with 6 Cadets plus Epsilon Leader.

Remind me again where FFG ever promised that the number of dials in a conversion kit was a promise of how many ships would fit in 200 points?
It certainly seems that FFG can't win, no matter what, though: One group of people complain that the conversion kits don't convert "everything in their collection" because the kits don't include 15 dials for their TIE fighters. Another group complains that FFG included an extra dial for the Scavenged YT-1300.

What since does it make to provide a dial that you can not use?

Where did you get that from my post? I'm saying that based on precedence set by all the earlier cashgrabs (like for example including fewer generic pilots than dials) the idea of FFG including anything "exrta" is naive to say the least.

So, according to you, when they included fewer generic pilots than dials, that's a "cashgrab", but it's also a "cashgrab" when they include an extra dial.
That's rather interesting logic. It relies entirely on the idea that a large number of people would see that there will be 3 dials in the conversion kit and then go out and buy more copies of the conversion kit because of that because they assumed that the number of dials was some sort of guarantee of how many they could use in a tournament list.
We have one person who has said they did that. I'd be surprised if you could find a statistically significant number of people to make this entire idea move the dial money-wise for FFG at all.
I find it far more likely that at the time they started production, they were going off a list of point costs that allowed for three ships, but further development changed the point costs (which they can now do, since those costs aren't printed). One explanation requires FFG going through some convoluted conspiracy to get people to buy up more old product in a way that has no guarantee of working at all, while the other is the simplest possible reason for it to turn out that way. Occam's Razor would seem to apply quite well.

What's interesting is your inability to read.

To be fair, it's only 2pts away from the threshold of fielding 3 and I seriously doubt 3 is OP at all, so that kind of reduction isn't completely out of the quesiton.
So Asmodee answered my complaint email today. It was unsatisfying but at least they responded....
“David,
Thanks for reaching out! The kit does include three dials. Point costs for ships are malleable, and as such, there could be a time when that ship's point cost drops to 65, allowing a full compliment. Keep an eye out for any updates to the points costs for ships!
Thanks,

See, now I waited until the points were out, then couldn't help myself from buying a 5th TIE/SF, knowing I could only field 5 with missiles and not gunners. I'm kind of excited by the prospects of the 5-straight into Lock/Rotate.
