Epic Dude!

By JediPartisan, in X-Wing

So here’s a thought. With the First Order and Resistance becoming its own faction and two new clone wars factions coming, do you think the’ll make Epic ships for those factions and if they do, what ships do you think they will use?

One of the imperial epic ships needed to be created specifically for Fantasy Flight with Lucas film’s help. Though the scale may be a sliding one, First Order ships tend to be slightly on the gigantic side. As for the Resistance, there are few and far between as far as ships go, but maybe episode VIIII will give us something.

As for the Clone Wars, I would love to see an Arquitens, but CIS ships may be too big. 🥺

Of course this could all be moot if FF doesn’t bring Epic to 2.0, but what can I say, I’m a dreamer. ☺️

Epic is mentioned in the rulebook. If it doesn't come, FFG would be considered liars.

I'm sadly not expecting new ships for it for next 2-3 years though.

Arquitens would be massive.

It's something like four times the length of the Gozanti, if I remember rightly. It's definitely about double the Corellian Corvette. Again, sliding scale and all, but you'd have to seriously downsize it to get it on the board.

Republic are much more likely to get this, IMO:

It's the armed version of the cruiser Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon arrive in at the start of TPM, features pretty regularly in Clone Wars and is just a bit shorter than the Corvette.

Perfect Epic combat ship. Could easily double as the support ship too (Gozanti/GR-75 equivalent), though it's possible the Corellian Star Shuttle could fill that role.

Separatists are much harder, yeah

Even their smallest ships - the Techno Union Hardcell and the Commerce Guild Diamond-class are bigger by about a third again than the Corvette.

It's kinda the issue with most of the army being droids, they don't need the sort of personnel carriers and corvettes you get with the Jedi. Just big massive warships and big massive landing craft.

We'll just have to see what FFG can come up with, or maybe how far they're willing to go with the sliding scale.

I could very well imagine re-release epics by Christmas, 2019.

But that's just my gut.

Yea, I think new Epic Ships are a long way off, given how much standard play stuff there is to get released.

That said, given there are now 7 Factions, I think we'll see some overlap in Huge Ships between the factions (especially since First Order and Resistance have nothing at a usable scale that is yet canon).

CR90: Republic (we see it with Bail in RotS), Rebel, Resistance (we see it in Resistance cartoon)
GR-75: Rebel, Resistance ? (it's pretty close in style to those TLJ escape pods, close enough to just shoehorn it in)
C-ROC: Scum, Separatists (I think we see them in Clone Wars )
Gozanti: Empire, Separatists (again, seen in the Clone Wars )
Raider: Empire, First Order ? (seems not unreasonable the First Order would have some of these)

This would give each faction at least one Epic ship from the existing options out there. The Raider being First Order and the GR-75 being Resistance are stretches, but not unreasonable. For the CR90, we have on-screen evidence of the ship in the service of three factions. Similarly, we see Gozanti/CROC cruisers (basically these are the same ship) in service to Scum, the CIS, and the Empire.

C-ROC's first appeared in SW: Rebels. It's possible that CEC had started selling that version of the Gozanti earlier than that but no current source for it.

The standard Gozanti was used by the CIS, though, definitely.

Ah, thanks. I guess I've always assumed they're basically the same ship, just with docking clamps or cargo-pod wings added and slight engine/hull modifications between them. Sort of like the heavily customized YT-series, but cruiser-sized.

They basically are but the C-ROC version maaaaybe didn't show up until after the Empire started. If I were to wager a guess at the in-universe reason for this, maybe after the Empire started using the standard Gozanti in their fleet they pressured the CEC to not sell that ship to anyone other than the GE. CEC said, "well, we still need to sell this but we can't," and then the modifications occurred to make it different enough. (This is all head-canon speculation, though, I don't think it's explained in canon).

The Hammerhead Corvette is a clone-wars era possibility.

It's equivalent in size to the CR90, and, while it appears in Rogue One, it also shows up in Rebels and is frequently referred to as an older design.

Well eventually, but remember 4 of the 7 factions are not out yet (2 should be in next week).

I still believe the best "solution" is what we used to do in epic tourneys at the LGFS I went to and that is to share huge ships across the different factions.

Oh hey, A YV!... ;)

Uhhhh, that's not a YV. It's a Consular class c70 Charger retrofit, like it says in the link.

Are you confusing it with the YV-929 ?

If so, that's the one YV I really like. Looks badass. I'd love to see that in the game, but it's a large base at most.

It'd be on the smaller size, but me and my RPG group would go nuts if they ever made a YZ-775 for Epic. That's the ship they ended up with after I banged on about how much I liked it for several sessions. It's the perfect scoundrel home base ship. Having a model to sit on the table for the gaming nights would be amazing.

Clearly CIS gets an in scale Lucrehulk complete with a new 36' x 36' playmat

It was a joke. Look at how the frame is set up. :) The Consular cruiser and c70 Refit of it are built on a modified YV-100 style frame. :)

Technically the one we see him with in ROTS is the Sundered Heart/Tantive III which is a CR70. Here is it compared to the CR90.

That said the CR90 would work for the Republic since it was used during the Clone Wars show rather than the CR70.

Lucrehulk vs Imperial Star Destroyer

Make it happen.

That is a battle that would take weeks to play out, and rather 1 sidedly if the Lucrehulk has its full complement of fighters...
