Emerald Empire "Shipping Now"

By AK_Aramis, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Roleplaying Game

Soooo it apparently teleported because it was never "on the Boat" lol

More Evidence the upcoming page is not very useful anymore.

More likely, the shipping company and printing company failed to tell them it was loaded.

I like my theory better :P

Also probably means Rise of the Seperatists is also shipping...

And nobody thought to ask, all that time the books were on the boat? It seems more likely someone failed to update the Upcoming page than that everyone involved in the management of the project decided not to bother checking up on its progress...

Never ascribe to malice that which is easily explained with incompetence or stupidity. (a variation on Hanlon's razor.)

So where's the pdf?

You can pre-order the hardcopy of the book. I don't think .pdf versions of books ever go on pre-order (no real point to it).

If we're lucky, when FFG announces the book is "available now" some day in the next couple weeks PDF will also be available.

The Mantis are grateful to the Scorpion for resolving that inexplicable hold-up on the docks. Good thing they would never be so crass as to request a favor later in return...

Given the way the things have been handled recently, I'd expect the PDF 3-4 weeks after "in stores now"...

Attendre et espérer.

Before the Beginner Box came out none of the RPG line products were on the upcoming page at all until some of us emailed customer service about it.

FFG has also been using a US printer for a few books of late. If Emerald Empire ended up as one of those, it may have never been on a boat.

my FLGS says street date is next week.

The FFG 'boat' has to make it past Mantis Clan privateers? You know, that explains so much about the X-wing release dates over the years.

True. But you're allowed to be annoyed at people for incompetence as well as for malicious acts.

Has anyone actually gotten their copy yet?

I didn't know that, but I just checked a couple of my FFG books and it does say printed in the US. Interesting. My L5R core book though was not. It clearly says printed in China. Though all the recent hardcover novellas say printed in the US as well as a few of my FFG paperbacks. So it seems like a lot of the fiction products are US printed.

Got mine today.

It has a written history that cements the timeline and dates going back to the Nothing.

Theres a whole ton of location descriptions throughout the empire, with maps of castles, shrines, etc. Theres in depth descriptions of governmental workings, trade, how villages operate, the social hierarchy, the tao of shinsei, and so on.

Each location has rumors and plots (hook, escalation, and climax) sketched out. Theres fully statted NPCs.

We get miya, seppun, and otomo families, each with at least one new school. The Kitsune spirit is a playable "school". Theres also clanless monks (2 flavors). And a new Shinobi in the Kolat saboteur.

Theres new passions, flaws, and titles. A lot of them actually seem like they should've been included in the core rulebook because they're so obvious.

I've just started the in-depth reading, and I love it so far. Artwork is beautiful. Each page is chocked full of setting detail. Its dripping with adventure ideas and finer details that bring the whole empire to life.

Honestly after flipping through each page, I immediately went and preordered mask of the oni and the shadowlands setting book. I'm that confident in their quality right now.

Can I ask about the titles? Can youprovide some exampls?

Also, how does the Kitsune school interact with character creation? Or does it follow normally, and you're basically creating your pretend-life?

Kolat Saboteur, nice! I feel this edition will have much more shinobi content than in the past :)

I don't know what you mean. Obviously neither Shinobi nor the Kolat exist, after all.

Book says "they choose a clan and family normally" (sidebar pg.228)

Looks like they do this either because they've chosen that family as their cover identity, or because they're quite literally born into that family as the child of a kitsune spirit and a human.

They get the False Identity disadvantage (new in this book), and they can shapeshift into different forms. So you do creation normally and weave a pretend-life.

As for titles... advisor, clan magistrate, daimyo, gunso, monastic acolyte, priest, spy, yojimbo, and yoriki.
