Or is Stealer of Souls straight up borked? Attacking with it, or having an opponent attack into it, gains you a kind of incremental advantage (see: purge) over the course of the game that other cards rarely match. Short of using removal, which is far from a given, an opponent is bound to permanently lose ~2* creatures every time you play it. The aember gain just adds insult to injury. And then a little salt on the wound, and some more on the ground...
