Imperial fighter shortage

By KaLeu, in Star Wars: Armada

In Europe it is nearly impossible to get the Imperial fighter squadrons pack ONE (you can find some left overs with Italian translated cards), the FFG website has it as „awaiting reprint“ since 4/11/2018 . Now how do you get anyone to start playing Armada (as Imperial) if you can‘t buy this essential expansion pack? What is FFG doing here? Is it the same in North America and Australia?

Or is this a sign of the final days of the game?

@Wilson669 Thanks!

Hungarian store "Szellemlovas" has some. We could use some help boosting our sales! :) We can barely get any quarterly kit

Yep. My Imperials pretty much only use core set TIE Fighters and TIE Defenders. Maybe a Lambda or 2, sometimes a couple Firesprays. I'm thinking about trying Phantoms with Sloane. But I really want to use the more well known and famous fighters.

Phantoms work well with slone

I do not know of any Empire players who use TiE Fighters/Interceptors and it is not because they do not have them.

Don’t diss TIE fighters, they’re great if you use them carefully. (Diss interceptors all you want 😉 .)

Yea, interceptors are amazing. Definitely the hidden secret gem of Sloane builds. Especially the Snipe squadron from CC, which can pump up its attack and double-snipe with Jendon. Real tide-turner.

TIEs and TIE Interceptors are the best damage potential for the points, if paired with the correct Aces and Upgrades!

Yes, they die exceptionally fast compared to other squadrons, but, properly supported, will take more than their point value with them in enemy squadrons.

The true weakness of the TIE & TIE Interceptor is flak, and that weakness is at least turned into a chance at mutually assured destruction with Sloane.

What about bombers and Advanced?

First of to clear up my first statement I was talking about my local area (not that I personally know any players from outside it). As to the bombers, very rare, not because they are thought to be useless, just because we have enough of fighter pack two and they are thought to be better. I have six of each fighter pack and the others in the group have some as well so we run out of points before we run out of options. But yes the Bombers and Advanced do see the table rarely Advanced more than bombers as most of the players in my area use the squadrons as anti-fighter and the ships to kill ships. The bomber with being heavy can not lock you up, and only has one die for either attack, comparied to the firespray at twice the points get three anti-fighter and two anti-ship and it is not heavy so can also tie you up. But the main one that I see (not scientifically tested) is the TiE Defender it has good anti-squadron attack and after it has control of the skies can use its bomber to attack ships. As for none bombers that I see hitting the table are the Decimator even being heavy it has three dice each and is rouge, and the TiE Phantom.

I had a dynamite build back about two/three years ago that relied on Bombers and Advanceds plus some aces, but that died with the Rhymer nerf, and I haven't tried it since. My local meta has such a high squadron damage alpha strike that Advanceds just aren't worth it. Two of them are a 24pt meatshield with no tokens that can die to three squadron activations with decent rolling (Mauler and two Interceptors or Defenders), meaning that a beefy carrier will still have three more of their über squads to attack the rest of your fighter group. ****, the only significant points sink I've put into Escorts lately has been a Biggsball with Jan Ors.

To the OPs question, though, it's scarce everywhere. Used but complete Fighter I sets are trending around $40 USD on eBay (retail for $20), and have been for months. Given the fact that they're still not even At the Printer, we may go a full year with them out of stock from the manufacturer. And bear in mind, they were out of stock LAST WINTER, came back in stock around March/April, and promptly sold out again. Thankfully, though, Imps have some good stuff in Fighter II so they can compensate. Rebel Fighter II tends to appeal to niche lists (VCX token shenanigans, Headhunter spam [which I've yet to see IRL but really, really want to], and, uhhhhh. . .Lancers?).

I think we found why there are shortages... lol

Amazon, and eBay in NA have the Rebel Fighter pack 1 for some for absurdly high prices ($99, $199, etc).

Imperial Fighter Squadrons don’t even show up on Amazon, so, yeah.

I’ve tried calling about a dozen stores now and haven’t found any in stock. :(

There were Rebel squads in stock at my LGS a few weeks ago. Like, two or three. Now they're gone.

Buy lots on Ebay.

You'll easily get stuff at 50% retail price on there :)

Except they’re about 5x retail.

Generally you get things at a discount when you buy whole collections - ships and all - that’s what he means by “lots “

Individually, 5x retail, for sure 😁

Yes, in lots. If I ever get more people to join the game, I'll tell them to never buy new. I've gotten a core game, two extra dice packs, two manoeuvre tools and some extra goodies (cards, single squadrons etc.), one of each from each faction from eBay now (plus more and more squadrons obviously) for about the same price across as when I originally purchased the Core set, one of each squadron package (II wasn't available back then), Home One and an ISD. Granted I bought that at an expensive store rather than online. But still. Lots are so cheap it isn't even comparable to buying retail in a game store.

As for 5x retail. No.

New in Box packages go for 2x retail or a bit more on the UK eBay. I've never seen one at 5x retail.

I also know at least one UK and one US seller on eBay offering single squadrons for 2x-2.5retail price (those from squadron pack II and I respectively). I.e. you can buy 1x TIE Defender or 2x TIE Bombers if that's what you specifically need for a price that would let you buy about half a squadron pack before you hit the retail price of a full package.

I've happily purchased 4x TIE Bombers and 2x TIE Defenders in that way, so as to avoid buying more Imperial Squadron packages and technically saved money as opposed to buying squadrons I don't want/need (I'm mainly a Rebel player anyway).

We were mocking the person who was selling individual stands for $25 each previously... That’s like, 8x retail if you were to get a whole packs worth...

... They ARE out there like that.

Sorry, I did not mean for my response to be like ' THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN! '. Of course it does and it probably get sold more often than it should too!

Shame on people who do that. But also shame on the people who don't do proper eBay searches 😇

Ugh no thanks to bulk used, it’s not like I’m looking for something out of print for 25 years.

Why not buy used? I've gotten things that are virtually NiB that way very cheaply. I generally hate buying used but buying Armada used has been such a great experience for me :S
