system open series - USA vs Canada

By Wiredin, in X-Wing

I know us Canadians are in a slightly better position than those overseas... but I just want to share the ludicrously silly situation we have up here.

We finally have been gifted a System Open in Toronto. Very cool! Very Exciting... oh wait... heres the catch... it's in Toronto and for the rest of Canada that doesn't live in the center of the universe... Toronto is expensive to get to!

From the prairie provinces... $600ish average Canadian dollars to fly into Toronto using Econo-fair on West Jet. Sure you can fly Swoop to Hamilton and take the bus in, but even then $450 round trip.

So Seattle... $450 average Canadian dollars to fly to Seattle using Econo-fair on West Jet.

Phoenix - $350 is what we booked out flights at.

FFG, please, get us a System Open in Vancouver for those of us who don't live in the downtown Canada.

USA guys, how much is it to fly to your closest System Open?

Looks like maybe $300 round trip from St. Louis to Chicago? But we'd just drive. ;)

wanna know something silly... $500 Canadian to fly to Calgary from Edmonton using the same econo-fare and friday/monday travel days as above. it's a 2 and a half hour drive.

1 location for the second largest country in the world? Good 'nuff.

Seriously ffg look at a **** map sometime. Any map printed since 1812. Buncha mulrony's up in that joint.

Fun fact: round trip from ……… POLAND to Toronto is about 400 USD :)

I was planning to visit you but when I was about to buy tickets exact date wasn't set yet (only February-ish) so I decided to visit Chicago instead :) (450 USD round trip)

(expected weather was a factor also, end-March Chicago seems more friendly than mid-February Toronto for small vacations :) )

Yea, Plane ticket covered, need to buy SOS ticket. Dion have send me link to ticket site, but I was lazy and didn't bought one yet :)

About a 5 hour drive from where I'm at to Seattle. Hotels would be the biggest expense of the trip but I've got a few friends in the area with couches to surf. June can't come fast enough.

Cheapest would probably be Phoenix at only $195, followed by Seattle at $251. The driving time to Seattle is 11 hours 38 minutes and 11 hours 36 minutes to Phoenix.

I went to the System Open at PAX South and Kublacon last year, but it looks like FFG is not doing either of those events this time.

Canada is always an afterthought for ffg.

Last year they scheduled our regionals on the same weekend as Canadian nationals...

Tentatively planning to visit Chicago as well. ~8 hour drive from Kansas City area, but my friend has family we can stay with, so we shouldn’t have to worry about rooming costs.

For those with more experience... how soon do we need to worry about getting tickets? Do they tend to sell out at all? Or how quickly does that happen?

And here I was ready to drive 22 hours to the Mynock Open... Now I feel like a try hard. Sadly I wasn't able to go due to commitments.

Did the dates for the Toronto system open get posted? I can't find anything other than it is supposed to be in February

Sad thing is,for me i could fly round trip through atlanta there and back on average for $300 usd. I have not looked at drive time but im sure it is longer than 10 hours one way.

Trees don't vote play X-Wing. Its like 38th in population. California has more people than Canada as a whole.

I will admit it would be nice for at east coast, central, and west coast just to help reduce travel time/cost.

Not yet. That’s another thing...

Yeah we got enough people for 3. 1 is way too few for someplace with this much ground to cover.

Hi. Chicagoan here.

'Bout that end-March weather. . .

If Canada gets a system open then Texas should get one....

Toronto is a 4 hour drive from here, and over $200 to fly. On a map, it looks like we're next door. Canada is huge.

We drove for the first PTL Open, but I don't enjoy driving long distance, so we never went back. Work nicely flies me in for conferences and stuff.

I'm going to find you! What are the odds any random Polish guy I meet at Adepticon will be you?

I think there will be 2-3 Poles from Poland (for sure me and European Armada Champion who is Polish) but Chicago is known for having vast Polish community, so who knows ;)
