Endor table

By xmarkusx, in Terrain Building

Hey guys. I'm very new to building terrain (and tabletop wargames overall) so i'm not expert on building yet. Been painting minis now for around two years (started with Sorastro's videos of Imperial Assault), most of the elements i've build myself (trees and bigger elements), but bigger rocks are made by my friend. This is still very much in progress as you can see from the stage of painting for the units, still very much WIP process as well.

Working at the moment for more big trees. Will update if there's interest for ya'll to see!

This is looking phenomenal. I've got a.... not really Endor board, but alot of people call it that because of the trees >.> ((Went for a thick forest where an old Clone Wars battle took place, and now there's a bunch of overgrown wreckage about the place from the clone wars.)). Anyways, I really really like both the Tree-Tunnel you made and the super well defended tree stump. How did you make the two of them?

Do you have a thread with your forest

? It'd be great to see your work, as well.

Yes, it's on the second page. Was gonna take better pics (cause the ones on my original post were kinda blurry) but after getting pretty much 0 interest on my terrain I didn't bother.

Your moss and the ground cover blend seem to be working nicely with your mat. I really like the hollowed out stump for a perch idea.

What materials are you using to model your trees?

Cheers guys!

All trees (stump and hollow big tree) here are done from air-dry clay, it's really easy material to work with and you don't need much tools than a hobby knife! Tutorials for something like these are in youtube, few different avaialable ofc for these. I just checked few when i started ´building, i've never done any terrain before this stuff you see here. High recommendations for using air-dry clay from here, just spray it when it's dry and then apply some drybrushing and washes and some terrain material to highlight it, that's it! And i have to add that i'm not 100% happy with all of these elements, so there will be modifications and better basing most likely in the future.

Got some more additions done after this update (more trees etc.), will post 'em too when i got time to give 'em finishing touches and basing and take some photos. Been really distracted on painting the minis at the moment, heh!

And there is a Bunker coming too.... and i'm concidering build a slope to fit in in (trying to match ROTJ Endor bunker battle)!

Small updates, put together few more trees and added an Bunker (Galeforce 9) to the mix too.

This was before our last game and i've finished most of the trees with better paintjob and washes + basings. I'll put up some more photos from the trees as they are all done and ready!

Next i'm planning on to make a slope to put the bunker and or something similar, also need 3-4 elements of pine trees or similar, but can't find any coconut fiber so i could build those.
Does any manufacturer have cheapish and good quality pine trees or such looking like ready for table -kits available?

Hey! It’s been a while since last builds, had to step back in the game to get my bunker hill finally done. Bunker is ofc bought but the hill around it is made from styrofoam i painted couple layers. This is very very WIP so i’ll add some more paint (color variation) specially o the dirt areas and then base the whole **** thing with mossy grass. Hollow log will get at least more clay and paintjob, dunno yet will i give it s base too or use it just as it is. Thanks for looking, will take more photos when this thing gets done!

Updated photos, these arw finished for now, but i’ll most likely add trees and bushes later. Will have to take some ”battleground” scene shots today with all terrain!

Warning, table showcase (shizloads of photos)!

Here are all terrain pieces i’ve made and all units i’ve painted for Legion this far (turret, Jyn and Pathfinders still wip), i really need to pick all the missing Imperial expansions.

This is ”around” 3 x 3 table cause that’s what i got at home. For 6x4 table the terrain might be a little insufficant, but will most likely do cause of the big bunker hill element. (I do need more trees but that’s in process already!)

Wow, looking awesome! Nice and thick.

Do you do treat each tree base as area terrain or what?

The table looks awesome.

In this particular game we defined that pine trees are to be deployed in pairs on to the table before game, you can't fit any units under those pines physically, so they can't really go "under the trees". We concidered them as area terrain, if i understood correctly what you mean!

Cool!

LOS blocking or heavy or light? Difficult or impassable?

Los blocking yeah, if only cover providing in some cases we made it Light cover. Trees / bases are normal terrain (if you can even get a mini on the base), no penalties.

Nice!

Very nice.

Terrain always looks better with miniatures battling on it, doesn't it? Very nice work!

Yes it does, i'm thinking on framing some kind of Endor bunker battle scenario at some point! Thanks!
