Rebels list : 1st place in Paris, Espace Charenton (25/11/2018) Legion Side-event

By RaevenKS, in Army Building

Hello all !

Here was the list I played in the side event, where I ended up in the 1st place with both Rebs and absolutely no snipers. There was 16 players, 3 rebels only, shitload of speedbikes, of veers, and of snipers.

I really enjoy playing both the charges and Han solo. The list plays really smoothly (well, I feel it is) and is great for a game as Legion. SIDENOTE : You can play Han without Esteemed leader. To be honest, I never felt like I really needed the card. I mean... I never use it ^^

Scenario I played :

1st game : Limited Visibility, Major Offensive and Intercept the Transmission (5 turns, 4/1 for me)
2nd game : Rapid Reinforcements, Major Offensive and Sabotages the Hydrovaporizers (5 turns, 6/4 for me)
3rd game : Hostile Environment, Major Offensive and Intercept the Transmission (4 turns, 4/2 for me)

Whoa cool list! I don’t think I’ve seen anyone run triple saboteurs. I bet people weren’t prepared for it.

I love AT-RT’s so I’m glad to see you fit in three! I’ve been running them with HQ Uplink as well and even though I only use it one turn per game it helps a bunch.

Han Solo's my favorite commander, and I love seeing Rebel lists that aren't just Luke+Leia+Snipers.

I'm a Rebel main, and usually run Han + Luke. I've yet to try running around with bomb squads, how are they?

The bomb squads are amazing. Your opponent doesn't want to waste attacks on them at first, then they realize they have to...then they have 2 ATRT flamers in their face and they cant focus the bombers anymore...then, once they kill your ATRTs they lose the objectives due to mines in their way. Imo if you are to run bomber squads you need ATRT flamers (I run 3). Fantastic job RaevenKS. You and I seem to play very similar! The HQ's are a must. I like to "double turn" with them (very last units used in a round with Assault command card, then very first units used in next round with a low pip command card and the HQ's) which turns the tide of a battle very fast.

I have HQ Uplink only for that sweet "Sorry about the mess". First time I read the card I was like "What, only giving order to Han Solo ? Let me also give order to my AT-RT :D"
And that is true. None was really prepared for it. As weebear said :

And that is completely true. The 2 guys squad of saboteurs are insanely durable due to the fact that you cannot kill what you do not see... So you put the leader (the bomber) in the open, put charge, then he dies ? So be it, replace the regular guy by the squad leader, your saboteur, and go on.
You are suffering 2 hits and both of your guys are in the open ? Fine, take one suppression more, and delete both the hit !

And yes, that is completely true. Once people start to want "focusing" the saboteurs, they have at least my AT-RT Flamers right in the face. And it is to late. Once the field is mined, your saboteur can almost withdraw, and putting more mine (you have no limitation. Last game, there was 9 charges on the map, and 5 already exploded)

@weebaer I only play 2 flamers, because I oftenly saw that flamers lack of usefullness against a single commander, or a "1 biker left" squad of biker. In those specific case, I prefer a lot to stay steady (if able) aim, and saturate with 5 black dices. The flamers are on there way. Sometime they are destroying the game by themselves, sometimes they are both destroy in 2 turns, but bought me enough time for my back-up plan (yes, make everything HIGHLY unstable and explosable :D).

For last here, Han is clearly my way of playing. He is both really strong on is own and deceitful (I mean, once you are in the brain of your opponent, that "Change of plans" is IMO the strongest cards in the game. Last game, there was a situation where I knew my opponent has only The 1-pip Vader cards, and 3-pip cards. I had my 0-pip, a 2-pip and changes of plan. And in the situation, I knew he HAD TO play the 1-pip vader card. Change of plan on it, then I played my 2-pip card to take initiative 1 turn, and the next turn, when he actually played 1-pip vader, I played 0-pip to take the initiative again... that move was incredibly strong, and I think it completely destroy the winning wish of my opponent) AND GOSH IS HE TANKY AS F*CK ! He does not seems, but with duck and cover, the capability to reroll 3 defence dices each time he defends, and Emeregency stimpack, I think there was only once he went UNDER FOUR health ! And during the second game, he destroyed alone 2 full squad of Snows.

For the charges... I mean, it is also my way of playing. I am an old "control player" of magic, and I love "avoiding my opponent to play how he wants to" and force him to make actions I WANT him to make. Or just cover "immobile" objectives with sh*tload of mines. I saw one vader trying to steal the last game win running through my mine field... Well, it did not end well for him.

Moreover, do not forget that the many mines you are blowing up, the many "ranged attacks" it is. So yes, even if you do not wipe a unit with 2-3 mines (on an objectives, for example) you are putting 2-3 suppressions token. That is HUGE !

Fun fact :

At the beginning of the event, the organisation presented all the lists on a wall. Every single player (not me. I did not care of what my opponent plays. I just discover once we are against each other ^^) were pressing to saw other lists. At one time, I saw 6-7 players pointing a list and asking"Who is playing this one ?" and my friends turn up to me (I was sitting on a table, eating my well deserve breakfast !) and said "It's his.". And those 6-7 came and were like "What, why are you playing mines, they are useless. You should have put snipers, they are SO MUCH STRONGER ! Bla bla bla"... I was like "Yes. But no. Snipers and Mine are, IMO, really strong, but my love goes for the mines".

And right after the tournament (just after the last round) those people came again and were like "Oh, how did you manage to make it works ? Can you teach us ?" I mean, they were almost like "Give us your tricks !"... That was funny ^^

Yeah, I'm hoping to pick up Chewbacca soon to use with Han. While I feel like Chewbacca is about as durable as a piece of paper, his Teamwork with Han, along with his 3 pip card to bring back one of han's cards back to your hand, is just too good a combo.

I did a match yesterday with Han that was sweet. We were doing Key positions, he was splitting his forces. Veers and 2 Snipers were camping on the terrain piece way-too-far-away for me to care about, and we started on Limited Visibility so he couldn't really do much the first two turns with that cluster. He had Vader and 2 Stormtrooper squads with DLT Rifles deployed along his long board edge (we were doing Major Offensive, Limited Visiblity, and Key Positions) and was using them to get to an objective all the way on the edge of the board on my side of the deployment. Han killed 4 stormtroopers turn 2 and 4 stormtroopers turn 3. Vader ended up killing Han, but only after his DLT Squads unloaded on him on both turns 2 and 3, after Vader threw his lightsaber at him turn 2, and after vader charged into melee with him and attacked with 6 red attacks. So, even though Han died, I was more than satisfied with how much fire he soaked up. Also helped that I got Vader down to 4 HP by the time he killed Han. It was pretty easy to clear up Vader and the remaining 1 man and 2 man stormtrooper squads, considering he still wanted vader to clear that side.... which had Leia, 2 Rebel Trooper Squads, and a 1.4 FD Laser Cannon. (My favorite support is definitely the Laser Cannon, you should give it a try some time. It really really makes your opponent think about what they want to do. I've faced people that try super **** hard to get to an objective by doing silly moves to stay hidden from it, despite still being visible to other squads.)
