Now you see me list - Tie Phantoms

By Pr4ios, in X-Wing Squad Lists

While I am quiet new to the game and joined pretty much X-Wing in 2.0 I started experimenting with the Empire Ships and I was very fond of the Tie Phantoms in particular. After testing pretty much all ships I came up with the following list consisting exclusively of 3 Tie Phantoms.

(52) Whisper

(4) Juke

(14) Darth Vader Crew

(6) Cloak Device

(46) Sigma Squadron Ace

(4) Juke

(5) Director Krennic

(6) Cloak Device

(46) Sigma Squadron Ace

(4) Juke

(6) Agent Kallus

(6) Cloak Device

Overall Points: 199/200

Kinda really like the synergies the crews provide, the extreme maneuverability and the ability to push for more or less "secured" damage with Juke.

As I have researched so far I have barely seen any list focusing primarily on Phantoms or consisting only out of Phantoms and it got me thinking as to why. Would really appreciate the community input on the list and if its a) viable and b) what could be possible weaknesses.

Phantoms are plenty powerful. In fact, they are arguably the strongest ship in the Imperial faction (especially in conjunction with Juke---a talent that is so much of a force multiplier for imperials, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a point adjustment).

As to the list itself, I think it is fine, although I have no idea what you mean by '(6) Cloak Device'. There is no such upgrade in 2.0

Personally, I am not entirely sold on Director Krennic in this list. I can see the benefit of optimized prototype coming up only rarely in this type of list, so it will be questionable as to whether you get good value out of it.

Instead, I think I would prefer something like this:

Whisper w/ Juke, Vader & Collision Detector (75)

Sigma Ace w/ Juke, 0-0-0 & Collision Detector (58)

Sigma Ace w/ Juke, Sloane & Collision Detector (65)

198

My reasoning is that it will mess with your opponent's targeting priority. Normally, they want to kill Whisper ASAP, but if they do, Sloane will trigger, so that may push an opponent to go after the Sloane-carrying Sigma first (which you can use to your advantage by staying in the rocks, trying to hug range 3, etc).

Granted, I think getting the most out of this particular build will be more difficult and requires a much greater learning curve, but if you pull it off, you will have a unique list with interesting interactions that is both hard to use but hard to defeat once mastered.

Where are the 6 point Cloak Devices coming from?

If I'm building a similar list, I'd do it like below. More out of personal preference and style.

  • Whisper (Juke, Darth Vader, Collision Detector, Stealth Device) 81
  • Sigma (Juke, 0-0-0, Collision Detector) 58
  • Sigma (Juke, Kallus, Collision Detector) 61

I just feel like 0-0-0 is going to be easier to get mileage out of than Krennic (you have to be willing to take locks with the Sigmas, which isn't my preferred action, and isn't always easy on low-ish init ships like Sigmas), and I love Collision Detector. I don't view it as a crutch, a way to make up for bad moves or decloaks, so much as a tool to open up new positions. Actively move to fly over a rock for a better angle, one your opponent can't defend against as easily. Also, it's good insurance against quadjumpers. They decide to put you on a rock? Bwhahahaha! Charge and done.

@blade_mercurial might be right with Sloane over Kallus, too. Even without stress-dealing, the rerolls might be enough to scare a lot of opponents away from taking stress, which limits them. We both like 0-0-0, though. He's just so cheap, and seems like a good one to squeeze into any Vader squad.

I never even noticed that it wasn't "stealth device" in the OP.

Sorry, kinda translated the List from my native language and the "Cloak Device" is supposed to be "Stealth Device" for the cost of 6 due to Agility of 2.

In a couple of matches I tested the Collision Detector and I guess it is more due to my maneuver skills I did not really pull it off to work very well. Just liked the Idea of having an extra defense die + stacked up dies to be able to have a maximum of 7 dies to defend if possible (+2 cloaked +1 obstructed +1 range +1 stealth device etc etc) and quickly engage and outmaneuver.

I will give Sloane and your thinking of diverting target priority definitely a shot. So far I usually flew whisper a bit slower than the other two phantoms and run as long as I would get the better engage angle. Thanks for the advise there :)

Strikes me as being an exceptionally hard list to use well, especially being new to the game. So don't be disheartened if it doesn't click to start with, you'll learn a lot from trying! If it does work for you, you'll be a better player than I am :)
