How does one go about finding a store to play competitive and casual x wing?

i currently live in the fort Walton beach area of Florida

1. Pull up the list of stores that hosted a Store Championship this year ( https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/op/store-championships/x-wing/ )

2. Find the stores closest to you and look for events on Facebook/store websites or call.

3. Show up and chat, make friends, play some games, and ask for more info about the local area.

Step 1 is finding any game stores in your immediate area. The best thing to do is just visit the store and ask about X-wing. Usually, if they're selling the product then they're having games, even if they're just casual. They need to have big enough tables to play, but most game stores will be able to accommodate. Most game stores have a calendar of events.

I couldn't find a store within an hour of me that had an official store championship (one listed on the website). Then, a year later I found out the game store 10 minutes from me regularly had casual X-wing and did get prizes from FFG.

The suggestion to check out local game stores' FB pages is also a good one. I find this the most reliable way to find out what's going on at the two stores in my area. Also realize that interest in X-wing may wax and wane. For example, the store close to me had no X-wing for a while at the tail end of 1.0 and is just starting to ramp back up now that 2.0 is off and running. I think they just started their first weekly league again.
