Target lock transfers when docking ships?

By Sputnik7, in X-Wing Rules Questions

All,

I was playing last night with the new millennium falcon in X-wing 2.0

The other player started with the escape pod and falcon separated. While they were separated, i target locked the escape pod with my Tie Advanced. Later in the game, the pod was docked with the falcon, while still target locked.

I read the rules on docking ships, and it says that only circular tokens fall off docked ships, while target locks are square. My question is: since the escape pod is docked, does that mean the target lock transfers over to the falcon?

I would say no, as the docked ship is still a separate object, just in reserve while docked. Since tokens like Stress and Ions stick around, I'd say that the Lock does as well (unless you spend the action or ability to switch targets).

Yup. The lock is on the docked ship, which is out of play, not on the carrier.

We have had this same debate at my local store and it goes no where due to the lack of a clear set of rules on docked ships in 2.0 in regards to tokens.

Fact is, rules as written, the lock stays but you cannot use it when attacking the falcon AND you cannot attack the docked ship so you have a lock you can do nothing with.

Okay, thanks all. It makes sense that I would need to lock the falcon separately (also seems to make sense in my mind as far as real life target locking would go)
