Please forgive if this is already an old thread, the search function has failed me. I always thought the text on the shield upgrade card "increase your shield value by 1" means that the shield value of your ship is now permanently increased. So someone like R2 on Corran is able to continue to recharge the shields up 4 shields because r2 says "...up to your shield value". This new guy I'm playing against tells me that r2 only goes as high as the printed number on the card and that shield upgrade card is a one time shield point that once lost is gone. Which one of us is confused?

Your shield value is increased by 1 when you take a Shield Upgrade, there is no reason (Unless he was out of charges) that R2 wouldn't let you recover the shield granted by Shield Upgrade (As the shield is something on your ship, not separate on the card itself).
Thank you that's what I thought. It seems obvious from the text. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something dumb.
Are you playing V1 or V2... in V1 I could understand his confusion, but in V2, it literally show a +1 blue symbol without any text, so arguing that it does not modify the base shield value is suspect...
As a new 1e player, i never got that confusion. It literally says increase your shield rating. So the R2 'regen shield when performing a green maneuver' to ME would include any shield upgrades one gets.
Gonna have to pile on the guy claiming that you can only recover up to your PRINTED maximum shield value. Per the Rules Reference:
QuoteWhen an effect instructs a ship to recover a shield, an inactive shield on the ship card is flipped to its active side. A ship cannot recover a shield if all of its shields are on their active sides.
There is NOTHING in the rules that would indicate that you cannot recover shields granted by other cards... it only references the actual shield tokens a ship has. Since those tokens can either be active (blue) or inactive (red), it's pretty clear: R2 Astromech simply lets you recover one shield, regardless of where it came from.
