Rule doubt: overlapping and stop maneuver

By Shinren, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello!

Rule doubt!

Ship A moves and overlaps Ship B. So ship A moves back on the template until it touches ship B.

Then ship B moves, revealing a zero maneuver.

They are still touching... But overlapping? Are they at range 0 during the attack phase (so are they able to shoot each other)?

Thanks a lot.

Ship B did not cause a new overlap, but the two ships remain touching and remain at Range 0. They still cannot shoot each other.

@Quarrel 's answer is correct. You cannot attack at range zero (unless using some special ability) regardless of how you came to be at range zero, and you will not stop being at range zero until one of the ship bases physically moves to a new position.

Also, important difference in this edition, ships are at range zero of each other if their bases are physically touching. That is the only requirement. In 1e for ships to be "touching" where they couldn't shoot there had to be an overlap involved, that is not neccessarily the case in 2e.

In the case of Ship Bs stop manoeuvre being white (for example using Leia to reduce the difficulty), I assume this would also mean that Ship B could still perform an action?

Yup.

As @thespaceinvader stated, yes: a ship that executes a "stop" maneuver is, per the rules, ALWAYS considered to fully execute that maneuver (i.e. no ship overlap). If you have a way to avoid stress after the maneuver (such as with Leia reducing the difficulty, or some future card that allows you to take the stress for a friend), and didn't do something ELSE that prevented actions (i.e. remaining full-stopped on an asteroid), your perform action step is wide open.

What if you are a U-Wing, sandwiched so that you are touching one ship on each the left and right. You reveal a stop and try to rotate 90°, but your nubs get in the way on each side, such that you can't rotate 90°.

A) Does this count as an overlap, and

B) Can you then decide to rotate 180° instead, or has the rotation failed in some way?

Not addressed raw but based on precedent you pick a rotation to do, if it fails you don't rotate.

Even without the nubs, the bases aren't actually square... there's only a millimeter or so difference, but that's enough to make an attempt to rotate fail if you're sandwiched.
