Look at the wording.

As if they are engaged by two squadrons.

Instigator absolutely stops squads from shooting Valen.

Yea, except it doesn't work like that. You can still shoot Valen (in fact, you have to, if he's the only squadron).

Look at the entry for Engaged in the rules reference again.

Nope.

Read the rules.

Yeah I'm done pulling this thread off topic.

So it does seem that Crabbok's video is no longer available for the SSD spoilers. Hopefully all is well with the Crabbok / FFG relationship.

Edit: I'm going to try and collect all gathered data on this post. Also, a Shoutout to @OgRib , who posted the news just a second after me. His post was better structured and had more Intel than mine, and yet, it wasn't given attention. Sorry I took your spotlight.

Commanders

Admiral Piett: When a friendly ship spends only a command token to resolve a command, you may exhaust this card. If you do, that ship resolves a command as if it had spent a dial of the same type instead (22pts).

New rules (shared by @Green Knight ) WARNING: Some of these might just be guesswork.

  • It's HUGE, which is distinct from large/medium/small
  • It has 6 hull zones; the new ones are the rearmost arcs, called "auxiliary" arcs. So they are NOT side arcs, so say EA won't have any effect on them.
  • It can pass once per round.
  • Huge ships must be in the setup area - but can extend outside the deployment zone, as long as they touch the back end (like Large X-wing ships).
    • It can't deploy overlapping obstacles.
    • Squads can't go beyond distance 1-2 of a deployment zone, even if the SSD sticks further out.
  • When revealing a dial, it gets a matching token.
  • It can shoot 3 times.
  • You move from the REAR base.
  • Half points (upgrades included): if it takes at lest half its hull value in damage (unlike X-wing shields are irrelevant).

I'll try to add images and sith as they come.

Edit 2: card images from reddit. Added guesswork warning for rules.

Yet you won all but one North American Championship. And a handful of the European Championships. And plenty of Regional Championships.

This is just like in The Last Jedi where the Rebels didn't believe they could win, but then they did! You just need to believe in yourself and the Rebellion and you'll be able to fight the SSD!

It actually gives me an idea inspired by my favorite scene in the whole movie! You know where Rose saves Finn? Maybe we crush the SSD not by fighting what we hate, but by saving what we love?

I'm thinking like 3 Peltas all with Shield Projection Experts, to save each other from the evil SSD!

Hmm I hate to say it but your all been hoodwinked. Palpatine visited ffg and production is way ahead of schedule.

The leak over the weekend was false information. For example Darth Vader’s choke effect is actually on your adversary nearest officer.

And secretly there is the Eclipse 2 card that has the Death Star beam.

The final rise of the empire is here.

On a more serious note is it wrong my addiction is even worse since the weekend. And I have to constantly check ffg news site. Or is there Jedi mindtricks involved.

lol

Wrong Timberlake song to reference in an SSD discussion.

Angles are sexy on the larger ship.

Nonsense. Real ships have curves.

To paraphrase SWE’s Kirito:

”The power of love is bull****. The power of guns and violence; that’s where the money is.”

I have no worries over fighting the SSD. I trust it will be relatively balanced and beatable. I'm just saying that as a Rebel player it's not an exciting release, since Imperial players are getting multiple commanders, four ship variants, and a pile of officers out of this pack to add to their options. Meanwhile, Rebels will be likely going at least 18 months (or more) with nothing new to tinker with.

So what you are saying is you are mad that the Imperials finally, after 7 waves, have the same number of ships as the Rebels?

meh

Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying.

That argument doesn't really hold water though, does it? We're talking 12+ months of absolutely no new content for one of the 2 factions vs 1 extra ship that came with the Core Box and that's always been there. I'm not minimizing the issue of Imperial fleet diversity, but rather pointing out that "waiting 7 waves" when there is regular content isn't the same as waiting for any content. This is the first asymmetrical wave and considering the release rate, it's a tough pill to swallow.

I understand the ship count discrepancy issue and I'm glad they're fixing it, but I would have much prefered if FFG had chosen to release 2 imperial ships in a wave, alongside a single Rebel ship. There could even have been a nice game design element there, tying the 2 ships (sort of like Hammerheads, but maybe with the 2 ships filling a different role).

Instead, they're fixing it while also unbalancing the number of admirals (12 to 10) and the number of faction-specific officers (20 to 14). In addition, they're not providing much new content for a significant part of their playerbase, except the opportunity to counter a new ship class with exactly the same set of tools we've had for a year (at the time the SSD is expected to ship).

I would be happy with just a squadron pack even, I don't really care, as long as there's something to be excited about. To use the same argument you did, the Imperials already have more squadrons than the Rebels, don't they? 😜

Was this a futile attempt at a coherent argument when it's likely just jealousy on my part? Probably. Try not to be jealous when your neighbor gets all the fancy toys and the big G.I. Joe Command Center for Christmas while you get an apple and an old pair of socks that your cousin used to wear. 😆

Have we confirmed the "apple" and "socks" upgrades for Rebels? Sounds too good to be true atm.

That's nice, but the SSD is SWA20. That means it has been in development since at least March of 2016, potentially earlier as it's not likely get their product codes until at least testing is mostly finished. The ship imbalance in the game has been very pronounced for the entire life of the game, so no I don't think it's importance can be understated. Fact is the imbalance went on much longer than was ever intended by the developers and it is about time they fixed it. And to say that Officers or Admirals have the same effect as base ships on fleet diversity would just be incorrect. Especially since all the officers are unique, and the Admirals are generalists not designed for a particular archetype outside of perhaps the SSD itself.

Do I wish this had been an Imperial 2 ship wave to a Rebel 1 ship? Sure I'm not daft I'd love more content. I play both sides all the time, and I'd love more Rebel ships, but another 1 and 1 wave would have been really bad for Imperials, and they obviously didn't have the production capabilities to design, test, and manufacture anything but the SSD this time around.

Edited by BrobaFett

Someone mentioned now that imps have more admirals....but did they...konstantine...tagge....Tarkin....there is 3 there that are mostly useless. Even Garm has his place and is at least cheap.

If they've been working on the SSD for almost 3 years now, then I don't believe that FFG really cares about the extra ship that the rebels have. Instead of taking that much time and quite probably at this point a new wave of releases, the work on the SSD could've easily been delayed for 6 months and packed an extra ship for the empire in a wave sometime in the last 3 years.
