First post here.

I have decided to collect only Original trilogy minis ... well nostalgia and do not much like EP: 1. 2 or 3 although gaming wise they might not be that bad.

Same applies for the new stuff, i'm fortunate enough to have a friend who works for MIB (Men in Black) and he was able erase that part of my memory that referred to LAST JEDI and SOLO so as to save me from any further trauma and uncontrollable weeping at night.

To me Luke, Han and Leia are still dancing with Ewoks in a forest far far away.

So if we talking Ep: 4.5 and 6 only what can i expect to get for my armies,,, i'm desperate here , deleted scenes anyone?

For example i have managed to justify to myself the AT_RT as it is a old version of a bipedal walker like AT-ST and does not require much imagination to think that rebels could have gotten their hands on few in the original trilogy.

So anything like that guys.... help.

So far, everything released is from the OT except the AT-RT.

The wookie unit is not exactly OT and the Rogue one units coming are the only stuff so far that is not OT so you are good.

Can't really expect much else, as pretty much everything on screen in the OT has entered into the game at this point. Each faction could maybe squeeze one or two more unit boxes: Death Star Troopers, TIE Pilots, Rebel Hoth Troopers, and Rebel Pilots (though I'm not sure how much the game needs any of those). After that, you've got massive vehicles like the AT-AT, TIE Fighters, and other starfighters. The AT-AT is probably pretty likely at some point as an "epic" release, but I wouldn't be too sure about starfighters. This basically leaves niche support pieces like Golan Laster Turrets and Rebel hover-carts (the things carrying people around Echo base that look like soap dishes), and those are probably very unlikely. Then you're digging into alien species and other independent allies, which would be a stretch I think: ewoks, tusken raiders, jawas, Bespin security, cloud cars, and so forth.

As for characters/commanders, there's a few more heroes (e.g. Lando, C3PO, R2D2) and villains (e.g. Jabba, Dengar, IG88, etc.) and commanders (Jerjerrod, Tagge, Cracken, Madine, etc.). But how many commanders will the game need? And if the pattern of releasing a commander alongside a semi-related unit box continues, after a few more commanders it'd be tough to find someone relevant from the OT films.


If you're willing to allow anything from the OT-era, then you've got a few more potential offerings with Rogue One and Solo and Rebels and the forthcoming live-action series focused on Cassian Andor. These properties could offer things like Saw and his Partisans, Mudtroopers and Rangetroopers, Enfys Nest and her Cloud-Riders, Admiral Thrawn, Hera, etc. ... some are bigger stretches than others (at the moment, but who knows what new comics and novels will connect to the Galactic Civil War), but there is some potential. Then there's "snowball's chance on Mustafar" stuff like Commander Rahm Kota and his Kota's Milita as a unit, or the 501st Legion Stormtroopers.

Yep everything you can get right now is OT stuff except the ATRT I think....Jyn and Pathfinders also wernt in the OT but have been announced also...but they are part of the same era I guess.

Given that the movie argues directly into Episode IV, yeah.

As noted by others, most of what is presently out is OT, with the exception of AT-RTs and Wookiees- those you have to use a small amount of imagination to fit in, but it doesn't take much. AT-RTs look like Star Wars tech, and of a decidedly inferior form to the more powerful and well-protected AT-ST, so thinking of them as outdated and discarded models used by the Rebellion works. As for Wookiees, its not as if the people of Kashyyyk were terribly big fans of the Empire, so any of them who were not enslaved would have a good probability of holding sympathetic views with the Rebellion. And, really, you can make a pretty good force out of what is presently available, and have a lot of options to play with. While technically Jyn Erso is not OT, the Rebel Pathfinders coming out alongside her fit the OT aesthetic well, and in fact some of them could pass for Hoth troopers if you so chose to paint them.

Rather than worrying about deleted scenes for justification, I'd recommend looking at miniatures as they release, or as you find them in your local game store, and see if they fit well with your idea of the Galactic Civil War. Ignore the Clone Wars stuff when it comes out, unless it becomes appealing to you for some reason, and ignore any Resistance/First Order stuff, unless it appeals. But, regardless of the source of the material, look with an open mind at gaming material tied in to the Galactic Civil War/OT era, and pick up what shows potential. Most games have to expand a little beyond what source material is available in a total of three movies, so if you don't care for the movies/cartoons/comics, don't worry about it. Let the new characters and unit types stand as nothing more than expanded options to play with and have fun.

I too favor the Galactic Civil War for a Star Wars setting, so that's the approach I'm taking- buy those things which interest me and fit into the conflict between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire. If it doesn't interest me, it doesn't matter if it fits or not. (I'm still not sold on using the Emperor and his Royal Guards in a military field- I think they fit better at the character-level strike team format of Imperial Assault...)

You mean the time period between ~the Battle of Yavin - the Battle of Endor or are you insisting that it must have been seen on screen in a movie?

If it's seriously only IV-V-VI you're gonna be scraping the bottom of the barrel soon. Maybe Imperial Fleet Troopers and Gunners (the guys with the closed up helmets)..that's pretty much it other than an AT-AT.

I have dug out my old star wars encyclopedia and as many of you have suggested there isn't much left.

This is what i got:

Sand troopers - almost storm troopers but i think there is enough to make them a bit different, maybe courage 2?

R2D2 and C-3PO hard to put them in any category maybe like the personnel expansions only smaller.

commander Jir - this is the guy who was standing behind Darth vader when Leia was objecting that she is on a diplomatic mission in ep. IV ( he could be a cheap commander)

Dewback and Tauntaun they could be released at the same time as supports 2 per unit (this is my pick of the day, they would be cool)

Obi wan as an operative

Garindan as the imperial spy in epIV maybe some kind of specialist .

Grand Moff Tarkin and Admiral Motti as commanders

Probe Droid - have no idea how would one use it within the game

Major Derlin - commander for the Hoth troopers

Hoth Troopers

Master Yoda - very old he is (still could be used as an operative maybe)

More Bounty hunters : Bossk, 4lom, , IG-88 , Zuckuss

Lando, Lobot and the Bespin guard (after the freezing of Han they would most likely side with the rebellion.

Of course as a few people pointed out that i should look at the minis as they come out ... i can see breaking my own rules if anything cool in the heavy vehicle category comes out.

Yeah the only things annoyingly missing from the OT's two big onscreen battles are squads of Hoth rebels, ewoks, and some kind of Imperial squad that is unarmored except for helmets, I don't care if it's army or navy, I'd like at least one. We're also presently missing a rebel commander in a Hoth coat.

The current lineup (once we get all announced future releases anyways) is still a huge supply of OT models. Right now, a purist can make 2 good Endor armies, 1 good Hoth army, 1 passable Hoth-ish army, a rebel irregular army right out of the old West End RPG tradition, and a nameless faceless armored fist of the empire. Both sides have a few vehicles, snipers, and artillery so you can make shooty armies, swarm armies, and heavily mechanized armies. Plenty to pick from for now. That's not a bad start for the game's first year or two.

It would be really cool to get more of the weird little things in the background but eventually I'm sure we will. Dewbacks, and bounty hunters and whatnot.

People forget how long it takes to get stuff out. West End is known for having at least one pose of pretty much everything, BUT, they had been releasing metal minis, to support the RPG, for a few years before the miniatures battles game came out. The D20 Star Wars skirmish game had pretty much everything but it was released over a period of many years.

Isn’t the unit leader on the Stormtroopers already in the “Sandtrooper” pauldron? Consider me a skeptic about Sandtroopers, “Mudtroopers”, and the like ever being a discrete unit.

I would expect some or most of the following:

Lando, Yoda, Obiwan Kenobi, General Madine, Dodonna, Ewoks, Generic Smuggler (quest feature, similar to the bounty hunter feature, except has to bring an item to a point outside deployment zones and selected by the opposing player)

All the bounty hunters (IG-88s, Bossk, Dengar, 4LOM and Zuckuss, Greedo, generic bounty hunter)

General Tagge ("how will the emperor maintain control without the bureaucracy?"), Moff Jerjerrod ("the emperor is coming here?"), Wulf Ylarren (DS conferance room, ISB white jacket)

General Reikkan (Echo Base), Jan Dodanna

The "sandtroopers" are just the DLT-19 trooper with some dust.

In my opinion, most of that list is too much of a stretch for Legion. Though, I did explicitly note we might reasonably see Rebel or Imperial Pilots in the game. But even then, including pilots into a skirmish game is a sort of awkward. Take the WotC Star Wars Miniatures game: they had generic pilots and characters like Wedge and Biggs. But it always felt incredibly weird to me to have a ground skirmish game where pilots were superior warriors to your basic trooper choices (in WotC they were basically veteran trooper stats with the addition of grenades).

Having pilots as 'upgrades' for the T-47 Speeder is a great way to include them, but having a squad of Rebel Pilots running across the battlefield laying down fire just seems... weird, especially if they're more combat-capable than trained soldiers. Perhaps they could be like cheap filler meat-shield units that are bad in combat, but it would still seem unthematic to then use your ace pilots as battlefield pawns.

They start either captured by the enemy force or ejected somewhere on the battlefield, then you get rewarded for rescuing them. I’m not so sure. Han was known as a pilot, not a warrior, but we have no issues seeing him on the battlefield. I could see Wedge as a heavy weapon upgrade to a unit. He could add a red die and sharpshooter or pierce but be expensive to keep it balanced.

I think rebels had to wear many hats.

This was how I started in X-Wing...lets just say it didn't turn out well...

We have Emperor Palpatine himself. No humanoid model is a stretch for Legion now.

Because if you want to be extremely narrow, you could say Rebels only have one heavy weapon trooper option in the Sab from the Commandos because I sure don't remember a Mon Cal sniper running around Endor nor do I remember a Rebel wielding an Ion cannon or "Uncle Gazpacho". Heck, I don't remember any Duros running around for the Rebels either so I guess you better be happy with a 4 figure Rebel Trooper unit.

Now, if your head canon can wrap itself around all of those figures being "slightly off-scene" or "deleted scenes from the cutting room floor", you open yourself up to pretty much anything GCW era that FFG releases.

Don't like Rogue One? It's pretty much a deleted scene from E4 that was just replaced with the opening text scroll.

Rebel Pathfinders? A bunch of them got dropped off in a U-wing. Who's to say they didn't get a successful evac pick-up before the data archive got Death Star-ed?

In the end, it's your game. If you want to focus on the GCW era, I'm sure there will be plenty of options for you that appeared in the first trilogy alone but don't discount other units that may be released that appeared in the era but were from a film/property that you didn't quite enjoy (like Solo from your first post). Instead, think of it as an opportunity to write your own stories with these cool looking Star Wars themed minis.

There are definitely MPL-57 grenade launchers at Hoth.

I assume since you are ok with the rebel's using an AT-RT you are not, as many have inquired, limiting yourself to things that actually appeared onscreen during the movies. Sounds like you are really a "Galactic Civil War Era" collector and not an "Original Trilogy" collector.

If that's true you'll find plenty to play with in the current releases and what we know is upcoming. I come from the old West End Games approach and find core heroes to be anathema to gaming. So personally I can't wait until we get the generic officers.

3 of the best pilots in the galaxy are already in the game.

2 of them come in the base box.

I think you are right TauntaunScout maybe not strictly the OT movies but more galactic civil war era, i will go case by case with the upcoming miniatures and the ones that i like i'll just have to make persuasive arguments for inclusion in my force☺️
