Jake / AP5 stress actions?

By Hamdamcwa, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Let's say your friend and mine, Jake, is stressed.

AP5 moves and coordinates a barrel roll for Jake.

Jake does the barrel roll. Can he now do his signature focus action in himself? AP5 says if the the coordinatee has exactly one stress token, it "can do actionS" suggesting he can.

Thoughts?

I think no.

My understanding of AP-5 is that the other ship's permission to perform actions while stressed only applies to AP-5's coordinate itself, rather than subsequent linked actions or triggered abilities.

There are adjacent rulings with Lieutenant Sai. When she coordinates something like a TIE Advanced v1 Prototype, if it boosts and links into a focus action, she's not able to claim that the ship she coordinated did a focus action to trigger her ability, and take a focus herself. Only the initial action counts.

As such, I wouldn't apply AP-5's stress relief to subsequent actions. "While AP-5 Coordinates" is over after the other ship performs an action.

i agree, he can't. the timing for performing actions while stressed has passed, since it's now after ap-5 coordinates. you can't do linked actions off ap-5s coordination while stressed either.

it's in the rules reference under "cooridinate".

Everything they both said, but with the caveat that Jake could still use his ability to pass the focus to someone else.
