We Ackshully Iz Bigga - Non-Rush Orcs

By cyberfunk, in Warhammer Invasion Deck Building

Skaven and Orc rush are still looking like the decks to beat, but I was curious what kind of luck people have had with Big Orcs? Here's my latest version:

Units: 26
3 Followers of Mork (2-O)
3 Lobber Crew (2-O)
3 Squig Herders (2-O)
3 Clan Moulder's Elite (2)
2 Big 'Unz (3-O)
2 Bloodsworn (4-C)
3 Boar Boyz (4-OO)
2 Ugrock Beardburna (5-OO)
2 Grimgor Ironhide (6-OOOOO)
3 Bloodthirster (8-CCCCC)

Supports: 10
3 Warpstone Excavation (0)
2 War Paint (0-OO)
3 Contested Village (1)
2 Orc/Chaos Banner (2)

Tactics: 12
3 We'z Bigga (0-O)
3 Seduced By Darkness (0-C)
3 Rip Dere 'Eads Off (1-O)
3 Brutal Offering (2-CC)

Quests: 2
2 Wolves of the North (0-CC)

Play weenies to Quest/Kingdom and beefy guys to the battlefield. Brutal Sac to kill battlefield weenies and turn on your Boar Boyz/Beardbruna/War Paint. Play all your supports to one zone so you can Grimgor the other one. Eat attackers with Ripped dudes.

I usually don't like Ripping the Thirster in Quest, since it's only netting you three cards for a barrel; but, if you need somebody for a big Brutal Sac, it becomes a pretty sweet deal.

Would be nice to get at least the third banner or Bloodsworn in there to help with loyalty costs, but that would probably mean losing either the Lobber Crews (gasp!) or the Followers/Herders. And the third War Paint could be good. Might drop a We'z Bigga for that.

Is Basha's Battle-Axe or Deamonsword worth including? Other suggestions? Have you played something similar?

i play something similar for my orc deck, but instead of the various Chaos cards (only bloodthirster i use as devel) i have some rush guys (e.g) to start attacking early on. and I use 3 Ugroks because he's always the target. Banna of da Red Sunz I find useful when there's no damaged units for Squigs, Boar Boyz, or for Ugrok or Ugruck for free resources, which i put in QZ. Going to try out the new non-relic orc attachment (forget name atm) to redirect damage to one of those two. Also Scrap Heaps to increase their potentials. Really like the idea of Brutal Offering though here! Plus Basha's Blood Axe on Followers in BZ, corrupted potential defenders with your beefy guys could be devastating...

so along with 3 We'z Bigga!, i'd definitely have 3 Ugrok Beardburnas & 3 War Paints. Can't tell you how many times i've gotten him out turn 2 w/ we'z bigga for a 4/4 guy, and probably half of those times with war paint on him too making him 5/4....VERY big threat for turn 2.

Yeah, Ugrock with the Paint is pretty much the essence of the deck; some games you will certainly want that third copy. I also considered Thick-Skinned, but it only works on combat damage, which kinda sucks. Blood Frenzy would be cool, too, but three loyalty is probably a bit much.

Urguck is certainly on the short list of cards to consider, as well. I only decided against him because you don't really want him taking up the BF hero slot, so he won't give you free barrels for playing Brutal Offering. He also isn't a good candidate to be the Offering. It was pretty much him or the Bloodsworn, and I decided I needed another 2-hammer guy and the loyalty (though I realize now Brutal Offering is only one loyalty, not two). But you should be able to trigger the Bloodsworn's ability quite bit.

I like Banna a lot if you're planning to Troll Vomit, but here I figure you'll want to Grimgor the Kingdom against Order decks (or Destruction decks that make a lot of barrels), so I'd rather just play more guys.

I have had a lot of luck with a deck making use of all the orc stuff that benifits from damage, it does falter vs the "other" greenskins though, the rush as they say. But aside from that they can be fun compeditive decks. I don;t even bother with rip head off BT, too situational and unrealible combo, I have had that guy that gets stronger with damage loaded up with warpaint dealing double the damage of the thrister.

The situation where Rip/Thirster is good? When your opponent attacks OR has a card that cancels damage. I think that pretty much hits every deck out there at the moment. happy.gif Two cards doesn't seem like a particularly elaborate combo, especially since Rip is playable without the Thirster. That makes it a little more reliable than Verena/Electors, which doesn't seem to be too fancy for most folks.

Were you running Brutal Offering in your build Dwynarc? Or something else to stop the rush? I wouldn't really expect this type of deck to beat the rush without some hate.

yes and this deck* has trouble with Skaven/Chaos corruption deck as well. Will strongly consider Brutal Offering (of Blood For the Blood God lol) though.

Or might make just make a deck with every card that has the word 'Blood' in it partido_risa.gif

*my version of it at least

Cool idea for a deck but I think you're being held back by only having 50-cards. Since you're not really going for a Rush, you can definitely work between 50-60 with that one from what I've seen...

I wouldn't argue too much with tossing in the third Beardbuna, War Paint and/or Chaos Banner/Bloodsworn #3, as I think they are coming in at roughly the same power level as most of the cards in the deck. And, it's remotely possible you could lose to Dwarves or a controlish Destruction deck by simply running out of battlefield hammers to throw at them. Any one- or three- cost card (prolly Grimgor's Camp) would help with "curve-smoothing"; as is, spending all your turn-one barrels has to involve We'z Bigga or Contested Village (or, I suppose, a Banner and a Wolves).

Against rush, Brutal Offering (with the right guy), Rip (with the right guy), and Seduced are your most important cards by a mile and you want to draw them in multiple if you can. Rush decks also generally aren't going to give you the luxury of picking up a lot of cards, so a trim deck is going to help you in that matchup, which is basically why I decided to leave it at 50. In a rush-light meta, I think 55ish would work.
