Registering decks that aren't yours

@Palpster I can look up your deck in the app and see the cards in it, but I have no ability to register it, add it to “my decks” or identify the QR or number codes from it. Poor Questarmy. He doesn’t look too bad to me, lol.

From just the app there isn't anything you can do with it other than see what cards are in it. I'm just curious to see what's possible from any API wizards around here.

As for poor Questarmy, his Sanctum and Shadows cards are pretty decent, but his Mars section lets him down more often than not, forcing him to take a turn just to discard 4 Mars cards. Also, nothing to deal with big dudes, which makes any Brobnar/Sanctum matchup (and some Mars ones) almost an auto-loss. He's by far the weakest of the decks I own, sadly. Still, He will always have a special place in my heart for being the very first deck I opened and played a pre-release event with.

This makes it seem less likely they're going to have an online play implementation using the mastervault deck database.

Except you may have to scan your deck to play it....

If a digital version is released—which I think would be announced by GenCon next year—it's likely that the deck will need to be scanned into the app in order to be used and once scanned it cannot be used by another player. Just my impression. If it can be used, then it's likely to have to be gifted/traded to the other player, although I think this is unlikely because of how much scamming may go on in a digital secondary market.

This is all just my take on if, when, and how the digital version of the game will be approached.

Wonder if they have a control of how the back of the cards look.

Can someone make a perfect front card proxies? Very likely. But can they get the back of the card right? In a same tournament cenario they would check and realize the same deck has 2 different backs or are completely identical decks. If some people could find a way to print the same valid QR code... Then is a freaking well executed forgery and they'll probably have to go with the one who registered the deck first (hope they can keep a record of who scanned 1st)

Let's hope the QR codes are enough.

Well, I think it’s important to understand that whether something is possible or not is not the best way to predict whether it will happen. If someone goes through all this effort it will be expensive and time consuming. They better be darn sure the deck is aces or they aren’t going to commit. It’s actually likely to be easier to just identify another good deck. The evidence for a decks effectiveness will almost have to lead to 1. People knowing who the owner is because he/she brought it to a tournament and 2. The deck getting chained.

For forgery to be viable you would have to know the deck was fabulous and that it hadn’t been used to win a tournament. It’s starting to seem easier just to buy enough decks to get a similar one...

Yes, doesn't mean it will happen. But I don't know about costs, because the cards don't seem to complex to make. The hard part is getting the QR and the back right to be validated. We are just making an exercize here "what if they could make".

Since there are already non official online methods to play and test decks, one guy can find and test a very powerfull deck owned by a casual player. The amount of players that will actually compete will be much smaller than the casual players, therefore those decks will never be registered in a event and won't have chains. But hey, that is just fantasizing a cenario :P

I think ultimately each deck will need to be registered with the owners account ID. They will need to have a trading facility implemented so that decks can be traded between participants.

This seems straight forward enough. Cannot wait for the online game

There are loads of educated guesses in this thread. Maybe someone could gather them all, compare it to the FAQ (if there is one?) and send it to FFG support.

Maybe they can clarify it and then this can be posted here?!
