Question on Monster Spawns

By Casamyr, in Arkham Horror

So, I've played this a couple of times now and come across a situation where a monster spawns in the same space as a player due to the Mythos cup.

My question is this. When the monster spawns does it immediately engage with the character in that space? I haven't been able to find a good answer to this yet.

I know that:

  1. if a player moves into a space with a monster, the monster engages with you
  2. if a monster moves into a space it will engage a player based on it's focus,

but what happens when it spawns into a space with a player?

Unless it's a lurker, it will engage the investigator. (Rule 467.5, if you care.)

Cheers. That helps a lot.

A lurker will engage if spawning in an investigator's space, an elusive won't. The keyword "lurker" is misleading - think of it as "stationary" or possibly "scheming".

I dont think I have come across an elusive keyword yet. But that is good to keep in mind for when that does happen.

The Occult Ritualist has both Lurker and Elusive

We had 2 of them out during a game, adding doom quickly

I forgot it had both. I really hate the Lurker monsters, always hampering our progress. *ruefully shaking fist emoji*
