Non Arvel A-Wings and Composure Abuse

By AngryAlbatross, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Looking at Composure and wanted to clarify something.
It appears that if you fail a linked action, you do not get stressed still and A-Wings have Target Lock and linked action to boost. So following that logic, could an A-Wing other than Arvel execute the following?

Move

TL

Attempt Boost and Fail (not receiving a stress)

Gain focus from Composure

Obviously it would take a great deal of flying to make this work. If there Tie Interceptors ever get a mod to give them Target Lock it appears you could do the same thing by failing barrel rolls.

Incorrect. Failing a red action still gives stress.

However composure is still useful on a wings and squints as you can attempt a BR (Or boost for squints) that you think might fail, composure for focus then use the ship ability to do the other reposition off thecomposure focus.

Good to know!
Thanks for the heads up!

It's worth noting: this was a revision in the rules reference.

Originally, failed red actions did not give stress. In version 1.02 of the Rules Reference, this was changed, and a failed red gives stress, shutting down (most) Composure shenanigans. It's for the best; composure is intended as a training wheels upgrade, not an action efficiency upgrade. But the context is useful. Some folks might recall the original discussion of the Composure tricks, but not have seen the updated rules.

Sabine Wren can still use it on her pre-move Boost/Barrel Roll to gain a focus token instead, freeing up her to Evade as her standard action. It's a different way of accomplishing the same thing as a Debris Gambit Sabine barre rolling near a rock, or executing blue moves after a linked barrel roll.
