Or by slapping the Y-wing engine pods on it, they had to remove the TIE fighter's engines to make room for enlarged fuel tanks, cooling systems, power plants, or any number of OTHER equipment necessary to actually operate them.

This is why most fan designs infuriate me (especially the tidal wave of "Super TIEs" that flooded fan sites in the 90s). The designers don't stop and think how what they're designing would actually WORK, and just slapped guns, engines, etc. on willy-nilly and it would automagically get the performance they wanted.

Space for it in the struts. A Tie Wing's endurance woul royally suck though.

Back to the RZ-2. Heatsinks are up front and don't look to have allot of capacity.

Maybe if they were using the Y-wing's struts, but they're using the TIE's. Which we know from other sources are almost entirely structural with a few conduits to allow passage piping and wiring to the wing panels. So no, there's not.

It helped that the Resistance Bombers may be the SINGLE WORST SHIP DESIGN IN THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE

That wasn't an accident. It was outright negligence on the part of Slayn & Korpil's design board. And incompetence by the Resistance's procurement officer. Those death traps should never have been approved for mass production (all arming a bomb does is activate its detonator. Set off an explosion around ordinance and the ordinance is going up primed or not).

I head-canon by saying that the bombers were terrible and removed from New Republic service because of that.... but that the Resistance was so hard up they picked them up even knowing how terrible they are.

The New Republic also already had B-Wings... Which if the newer A-Wing and X-Wing designs are anything to go by, the updated B-Wings would have like 4 Heavy Laser Cannons, 2 torpedo slots, a reload, and 6 shields and 4 hull.

I still think the B-wing should be strictly a gunship based on its effects model. Remove the torpedo slot and give her two cannon slots.

It has 2 cannon slots...

Never mind, you meant the New Republic version. Agreed

They should really give the RZ-1 an aft arc, considering it's supposed to have the steerable cannon, too.

60 degrees of rotation only, per the old Decipher CCG.

RPG sources established that some were able to rotate their cannon 180 degrees. So making it a Configuration would work.
