Let’s talk about the SSD since FFG won’t.

  1. I'm thinking of a Sloane list. Lots of squadron support. Stick on Brunson, Tua+Advanced Projectors?, Gunnery Team/Flight Commander(?), Flight Controllers, All fighters Follow Me!, Boosted Comms(?). Stick in a Boosted Comms Gozanti and we've got room for ~100 points of squadrons. Idea being that the squadrons take away defense tokens and then the SSD can just swat things.
  2. Not really that excited for Epic. I've been playing some CC, and that goes up to 500 points, and has an "epic" (possible) conclusion, but it seems to just end up taking more time to set up and more time to play, without that much benefit.
  3. If I don't order it I hope the "good" unique cards from it appear in tournament kits over the next year.
  4. Another Darth Vader? We already have 3 versions of him... is there no room for some other people?
  5. Hmm...
  6. Don't think so. A huge ship should be huge. It should take up nearly all your list.
  7. Not yet, but I got paid this week so increasingly tempted to pre-order after checking if it's in any sales.
  8. Dropping it down the stairs while trying to carry it places? Need a decent storage/transport solution.
  9. Maybe 10 December; an article about desiging the SSD model. 4 January for the full ship article.
  10. Not at the same price, but a Raddus at maybe 75% the price. Would be smaller - maybe about the size of the Huge Ship base. Technically it is Civil War era. [Although they'd have to be careful about giving it the Raddus title, due to the rules on Unique things.]

Also this forum has built-in lists... solves the problem with those 8s.

I'm also hoping for a Title that lets you shoot obstacles out the way (maybe letting you do damage to nearby squadrons and call it Iron Fist, but probably not for canon reasons. We're probably stuck with a combination of Executor, Annihilator, Arbitrator, Eclipse, Ravager).

XYV-666 are very good as an SSD escort. It doesn't mind that they are only speed 2, because SSD is also very slow slow. Good dice and hull for their cost.

The Piett-Yularen-SSD-Combo is also very strong!

I played with the proxy twice and had very much tun with it!

The only issue is, being heavy, they’re easily ignored by Bombers...

Can you jump a slow squadron over the SSD? Or is it too wide?

It appears to be the same width as a large base. So no B-wing jumps (right?)

Just throw them in front of the SSD.

1) Both. Any and all combinations will be explored, until I find my favorite.

2) I am absolutely looking forward to epic Armada. I never played epic X-Wing.

3) There is almost no chance I don't buy 2, but more objectives would guarantee it.

4) All the epic play griping I expect to hear.

5) A campaign.

6) 500pts would be sweet, epic around 1000pts!

7) Not yet, soon, but not until after the holidays.

😎 One of the younger kids goofing around in my basement.

9) December 21st.

10) As long as it is close to the same size, one of anything is an auto include!

Bring Rudor and Ciena Ree.

But then you’re really escorting with Rudor and Ree..... not YV666s

The only real escort would be TIE Advanced or Black Squadron? YV-666s are good in a mixed fighter screen. Or they worked well when I played a list with SSD Command Retrofit and 100 pts squadrons.

393/400 FP Station Assault/Salvage Run/Contested Outpost

[220] SSD Command Prototype
[22] Admiral Piett (Commander)
[10] Admiral Chiraneau
[07] Wullf Yularen
[04] Support Officer
[07] Gunnery Team
[04] Boosted Comms
[04] Leading Shots
[10] Quad Turbolaser Cannons
[05] All Fighters, Follow Me!
[293]

[15] Mauler Mithel
[13] Valen Rudor
[12] TIE Advanced
[15] Zertik Strom
[45] 3x YV-666
[100]

I found that it wasn't a problem them being slow. My opponent hat to come near me trying to attack the SSD. The 2 blue 2 black anti-squadron dice were intimidating. Chiraneau is perfect for them. Only problem: You almost need to activate "All Fighters, Follow Me!" if you want to change between port and starboard side of the SSD.

When you’re referring to escorting a ship though, what you need is something simply “not heavy”... Escort itself isn’t a priority, although that can be part of the program.

Escorting a ship is stopping a bomb attack - and only non heavy will do that on the face of it.

Now I learned so much. Thank you for explaining! Want to join the Star Wars Armada Wiki?

Although Valen + something heavy is an escort for a ship in a round-about way.

Because Valen isn’t heavy.

All you’re doingvatvthat point with the heavy thing isn’t escorting the ship - only providing Valen with more hot points.

But if they're enganged with Valen while he's protected by squads with heavy, they cannot attack the SSD and they cannot attack Valen. They have to chew through the heavy squads, then Valen, then attack the SSD. Unless they can get around Valen somehow.

There have been similar discussions on this before with decimators. What it boils down to is this: yes, Valen will engage and they need to eat through bulky heavies. The downside is that you’ve spent a lot of points on a squadron force that is much easier to Intel compared to a conventional screen. And with this size of investment, the fleets you’re worried about will have Intel. They should be worried about the YV’s armament, but the YV can’t even change sides of the destroyer without AFFM. With such a large target, they’ll be vulnerable to being outmaneuvered. My two cents.

No matter what your squadron escort is I would just like to point out nothing will be as thematic as a bunch of TIE's buzzing around an SSD 😉

Yea but 4 Decimators are a substantial threat. People tend to want to kill one or two first.

Still 101 points of squadrons that won’t earn their cost back against a Ciena/Saber/Jendon/Valen alpha, or Wedge/Dutch/Hera, etc. Decimators are a little better because they’re good against ships and they’re faster, but the price tag is half again as much and they can’t generate an accuracy. It’s almost worth running expensive all-purpose killers like Boba, Bossk, Zertik, Mauler, Maarek and/or Jendon once you’ve budgeted that many points.
