Rebel XYYA List

By GuacCousteau, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Okay. This really isn't the most competitive of lists and I'm fully aware of that. I know everybody is going to tell me to drop Horton Salm because he's crap and to run Sabine instead of Arvel.

The purpose of this list is simply for me to test out these pilots and get a feel myself for just how good/bad they really are. So I'd like to keep the pilots as they are. What I'm looking for advice on is the distribution of upgrades. If I lose, I lose. I just get the sense people are dismissing Horton because his ability looks bad on paper so no one is even taking him to the tables. Here's the list I have currently:

Wedge Antilles (52)

- Predator (2)

- Servomotor s-foils (0)

Total 54

Norra Wexley (43)

- Adv Proton Torpedoes (6)

- Proton Bombs (5)

Total 54

Horton Salm (38)

- Ion Cannon Turret (6)

- Proton Torpedoes (9)

Total 53

Arvel Crynyd (36)

- Intimidation (3)

Total 39

List total: 200

It's the sort of convoluted synergy I know usually doesn't work past the first engagement, but one of the purposes of the list is to help me practice getting my first three turns better: setup, first engagement, retreat/pursuit

The aim is to try and get Arvel to bump, Norra to range 1 and for Wedge and Horton to benefit from both. The only problem I have is that none of the upgrades feel right. Proton torps on Horton feel like a mistake given his built in re-rolls, but if I put them on Wedge he sticks out like a sore thumb as the priority target. Adv. Torpedoes are a lot of work to trigger for potentially little gain, though I do like that Norra wants to get range 1 anyway, can set the lock up in an earlier turn and can reload the torps if I really, really need to.

I also like proton bombs on Norra. It's one of the few elements of the list I've already tried and seen do well. A proton bomb at the right time is just fantastic, especially if your opponent forgets about them. I'll sacrifice them if someone has a better use for the points, but for now they're the last upgrade I want to lose.

The ICT on Horton is basically to give him a range 1 option. I know that's not optimum, but I want Horton to be balanced in points, if possible.

I'm wondering about dropping the torps on him and giving him proton bombs and Selfless. Maybe selfless on Norra too to help spread fire, given her solid ability to tank.

I feel like Horton, Wedge and Norra are all sub-optimum at the moment, but I don't know a better way to spend those points.

Any ideas?

As odd as it might sound trade the Proton Torps for Ions. A bit cheaper and gives you a chance to adjust accordingly. Arvel benefits from a slightly higher ship count, or at least another lower Initiative wingman. Just to help make an opponent a bit more predictable, but could benefit from the Ions doing the same function. Wedge is fine being slim. If you also give Norra Ion Torps, you could trade out bombs for another ICT for a bit more control, though it’s a preference at that point. Though ideally you may want to drop the Bombs for R4’s and open up that Y-wing dial.

Have been playing around with a different take on a similar list, ‘Ramming Speed’:

Norra Wexley (68 total)

Zeb

Intimidation

Veteran Tail Gunner

R5

Arvil Crynd (46 total)

Intimidation

Proton Rockets

Horton Salm (54 total)

Ion Cannon Turret

Veteran Turret Gunner

LT Blount (32 total)

Predator

You get the idea- Norra and Arvel try to ram and disrupt, Blount and Horton benefit from having allies crowding enemies. If you’re lucky then Horton ions someone and makes them easier to bump. Like you said this isn’t meant to beat the meta but it is good fun to go for all those bumps

I’d actually put vet turret gunner instead of prot torps on one or both the y’s

Double Tap is nice and ion can help keep them close which 3 ships want

Not a fan of tail gunner tbh.
