My FLGS ordered twelve copies of the starter and got six. I really hope we don't have another Destiny situation on our hands with this. How's the availability looking for you folks?
Availability?
I have a few FLGSs that I frequent. I know at least one has similar problems.
Granted, you just really need one starter to get started, it's not a case like Destiny where you needed to buy multiple packs to really be able to play. But with the response from the events last weekend, I'd hate to see the enthusiasm wane because the game simply isn't available.
I the one I frequent said they got the full amount the requested. They also had the nerve to have like 4 starter boxes on display last night and of course would not let me pick up my pre-order then. I mean the nerve of those people! Keeping me from what I rightfully own already! *wink*
This might be limited to specific distributors/regions.
So, in my region the only distributor for Asmodee/FFG is a company called "Alliance", and they are just the worst. They frequently do not ship all of the product ordered. They do not communicate with stores. They will leave orders in some cities unfulfilled so that they can keep some product in reserve for other cities. They are disorganized. They frequently fail to ship OP kits in a timely manner. If a customer special orders a game, it can take 2-3 weeks to arrive--if it ever does. Alliance generally makes it difficult to run a game store that carries FFG and other Asmodee products. Also, I hate them. /rant

I think that's pretty much been my experience as well.
I feel like availability may be limited but only for a brief time.

I know the owner of our FLGS was pretty disappointed when FFG/Asmodee went exclusive with Alliance because he had pretty much dropped them for these reasons already. He would have preferred to stay with AsmodeeNA direct but...yeah.

This. 100%. I cannot count the number of times that one or both of the FLGS's in this area have had issues with Alliance.
We all need to reach out to Asmodee and say, "Hey, you need to find a new distributor, because these guys suck and it's hurting our perception of Asmodee as well."
The closest retail store to me is a CoolStuff. So of course they are already sold out of the box set.
Still have Archon Decks though.
I would say the gut feel for Starters: Was that most people would rather spend $40 on 4 decks and forego the Starter.
So perhaps FFG didn't make enough based on peoples comments on the forums.
Edit: That said the decks are flying off the shelves. (Around here)
