Playing the game in costume/uniform

By LostFleet, in Star Wars: Armada

In the past few years I have seen photos of few games where one player would play in an Imperial Officer Uniform or in a Rebel outfit,

Did you ever got into costume to play or played with someone who got into costume and I was wondering if it helped to make the game a little more authentic ?

My Sith robes have wide sleeves and would knock ships everywhere...

... As I have foreseen it...

Need a Vader to do the things I say for a while, as long as I don’t beat up on his kid...

I dressed as Darth Vader for a CC game with friends. It was funny, and I think I won that game.

Money for costumes takes away from money for plastic ships!!!

don't have to worry about knocking things over as they move if they never move. #nosepunch

Imperial Fleet Admiral in the 501st Legion here. Back in wave one, the second tourney I played in I was in full uniform. Was told how cool it was to be beaten by an actual Imperial Admiral.

Can't say I've ever gone full uniform - it's kind of expensive to get the full kit in any kind of quality you'd want to wear it. Although if I wasn't married, I'd be half tempted to, let me tell ya... ?

That said, though, I'm basically always wearing a hat of some kind - so as often as not I'm at least sporting...

thought about this many a time... but something I would only reserve for playing in worlds final, should I ever be lucky enough and there happens to be a 24hr starwars cosplay rental within walking distance complete with krennic uniform

"oh! its beautiful!"

My buddy Chris has an Imperial Officer uniform.

He did not bring it to worlds.

The first time I met up at a local FLGS to play Armada, someone had an Imperial officer’s cap which they lent me. I forget exactly why....but I have photo evidence.

Haven't gone for the full uniform because 1) I usually play Rebels and 2) the Rebel uniforms aren’t nearly as sharp as the Imperial ones!

If you’re running Vadar, bring the Dark Helmet costume from Spaceballs.

we have a regular imperial officer between our local players/TO

altough I think the beard is not regulation (but well, long, flowing, curly reddish hairs neither)

Bonus Grand-Moff points if you're also in Slippers.

We have a player who has dressed in his Grand Admiral whites for tournament days.

As someone in the Army right now, I wouldn't do it until I am out of the military...

Because, you know. If I'm playing I'm off duty and wanna look scrappy...

Maybe I'll make up some crazy rebel officer uniform. Throw together a long sleeve shirt, maybe put some painted over Stormtrooper arm armor on the sleeves, some crazy pants like Army dress uniform pants with long boots, and a couple crazy belts with a nerf blaster? Throw in a ludacris military hat like a garrison cap with some headphones for giggles.

I don't see how it could possibly make the game more authentic. Costume or not, it's still two grown men very slowly playing with toy spaceships on a giant mousepad in a slightly dank corner of a game store or gaming convention as one of them tends to slowly escalate in anger and frustration. I mean, barring mental illness, it's never gonna feel even a tiny bit like actually being on the bridge of a Star Wars spaceship during a life-and-death conflict. If anything, a costume or two is just gonna further add to the absurdity of the whole ordeal.

That said, I have played at the North American championships against a guy in full Sith Gear including a giant helmet. It seemed a bit unwieldy and uncomfortable for him, and he quickly ditched the helmet. He lost 0 to10 (this was back before the scoring change), but I'm not sure how much of that was the costume's fault.

giant mousepad

Don't underestimate the giant mouse pad,

Me and my friends played the game for two years without any mats and we just played on whatever dinner table we found.

A few months ago we got the mats and it really helped with the atmosphere of the game.

next step? Depending on feedback from this forum, the uniforms,

And then the very big step?

something like the apartment at the video to add just a tad of authenticity 😜

I like to think our games are like, historical recreations done at some military academy.

Sorry to bring this back from last week, but I was thinking about this at work today, and thought of the William Shakesphere's Star Wars, and what a Imperial Naval uniform would look like in that version of the story. Or even an Age of Sail version.

I used to wear a navy uniform every day for work up until about 2 weeks ago why would wear another one in my time off. Bad enough I play navy in my off time I am not going to dress for it

As a TO I would love a Krennic Uniform with Cape but to get one the quality I would want its just too expensive at this point. The adult Halloween ones look OK in pictures but are far too cheap to wear on any sort of regular basis. The ones I have seen can be as much as $1K. If I could buy it piece meal and get it all for about $500 I might consider it. FFG hasn't been taxing my wallet lately and I have had plenty of time to save for the SSD.
