Awakened Tsukumogami - Fate Pool

By Mirumoto Kinjo, in L5R LCG: Rules Discussion

I have a question about the wording of "Awakened Tsukumogami":

Example:

There are 3 fates on Air ring and I have 3 fates in my fate pool

I have an Awakened Tsukumogami in my home area.

During conflict phase, I want to play a Kaito Kosori from my hand. As Kosori as Air trait, Tsukumogami gives me opportunity to pay it with fates on the Air Ring but the wording is not clear:

Is it implied either:

1. "Instead of using fate from your fate pool, ..."

or

2. "In complement to your fate pool, ..."

In first case, I can only play Kaito Kosori with no additionnal fate on her. In second case, I can use the 3 fates on Air ring, and for example, adding 2 fates on her from my fate pool.

Thanks in advance,

Kinjo

You can play Kaito with 3 fate from air and add some fate from your pool to keep her around.

And could I pay only a part of the gold cost with the fate on the ring?

By exemple, 2 fates on a ring + 1 fate from my pool.

Yes. Effectively the Tsukumogami lets you treat the fate on rings as it it were in your pool for the purpose of paying for cards with the appropriate element. Although why you would want to leave fate on rings in most cases I'm not sure.

Tadakatsu doesn't always let it be optional.

I meant if your spending fate why use from your pool and leave fate on the ring if you don't have to. Tadakatsu is great for building that pool agreed.

I think @GetBackBaby meant if the ring hasn’t enough fate to pay for the full cost, could he split the cost between ring/pool or has to be paid entirely from one of those.

Maybe but the example we were working from was a three fate air ring.

So, can I do it like this?

As I said in my initial response to the question yes you could, the fate on rings that match the element of a card you are playing is treated the same as regular fate in your pool.
