The best Tie wing

By chr335, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

So I got a new Slone fleet with a focus on a mass of defenders and interceptors.

Fleet 460 (397/400)
==================
Victory II-class Star Destroyer (85 + 50)
+ Admiral Sloane (24)
+ Intel Officer (7)
+ Gunnery Team (7)
+ Disposable Capacitors (3)
+ Leading Shots (4)
+ Quad Battery Turrets (5)
Quasar Fire I-class Cruiser-Carrier (54 + 11)
+ Flight Controllers (6)
+ Expanded Hangar Bay (5)
Quasar Fire I-class Cruiser-Carrier (54 + 11)
+ Flight Controllers (6)
+ Expanded Hangar Bay (5)
4 x TIE Defender Squadron (4 x 16)
2 x Tie Advanced Squadron (2 x 12)
4 x Tie Interceptor Squadron (4 x 11)
Precision Strike
Contested Outpost
Solar Corona

No boosted comms?

Yes I would drop the Intel officer for Brunson for a bit of flagship protection and add Boosted Comms to a Quasar. The other Quasar can trade its Expaded hangar into boosted Comms too as you will start to loose squadrons quickly and so paying to activate 10 a turn when you wont have 10 is wasteful. One Quasar can bank a Squadron token turn 1 if you like or get the VSD to chip in with a single squadron command turn 2. With no intel some of your squadrons may get locked up in a fight for a while so you can leave the odd one alone until the squadron phase.

If you have the odd point left over a SFO on the Quasar can be a good Slicer insurance and upgrading to Tempest and Sabre squadron is always worth it.

As @Green Knight points out, Boosted Comms will keep your Quasar's safer and let you use the full speed of your Defenders and Interceptors a bit more.

Intel Officer on the VSD I'd probably skip, you're using Sloane to kill their tokens anyway, and a VSD wants help on defence more. I'd replace Intel with Brunson or Tua/ECM.

Outpost and Corona look ok for missions, but I'd be worried about Precision Strikes. Your capital ships aren't triggering it much, so you're really relying on your 4 Defenders to score you any points. Maybe change to something like Close Range Intel (and use the dust clouds to hide your Quasars), it's less likely to backfire on you and once your squads start killing off your opponents' tokens you can spend your capital ship accuracies for a few bonus points.

It's better. Not good, but better.

What use is Tempest with Sloane? OK, so it's a bomber, so it's not bad... but it could be Valen Rudor, who is good.

Also, where is Maarek and Jendon?

Mauler Mithel?

The stuff that really hurts?

Saber: it's not bad here, but it is 1000% better with Howl, Jendon AND Valen for extra options. Now u can hurt stuff, then maybe not die bc escorts, but you can't carve out Jan or whatever.

Expected a question on the optimal fighter complement. I've found Sloane VSDs to be lackluster, due to their tendency to generate accuracies, lack of Avenger, increased fragility in an already fragile archetype, and inferior damage. What the points saved pay for is an extra Quasar. I'm not sure that's worth it compared to two gozantis and BTAvenger, but keep us posted if you stick with it and get better results.
