A-Wing RZ-1 & RZ-2

By JediPartisan, in X-Wing Rules Questions

The Tournament Rules Read:

Multiple Faction Ships

All ship cards and ship bases in a player’s squad must belong to the same faction. If a player’s ship has different versions in more than one faction, the player may use any version of the miniature and dial that match the full ship name when assembling a squad. All dials must be from Second Edition. Plastic dial backs from the premium maneuver dial kit may be used.

Now if I use an ARC 170, I can use the same mini from Rebels to Republic, but what about the A-Wing?

The two A-Wing minis look identical enough, not like the TIE Advanced X1 and V1, but like the Advanced the names of the RZ-1 and 2 are different, so does that mean A-Wing minis are not interchangeable?

Hmm, I know these things are subjective but there are a lot of difference between the two models, if you ask me.

Certainly there are more differences than between the TIE/ln and TIE/fo, which were already stated as far back as 1e to not be interchangeable models in tournaments.

As @svelok say they are different names with different stats and abilities, and swapping the models would definitely be confusing. So under the tournament rules, you are definitely not allowed to use them interchangeably.

I'd say you'd be fine flying the Rebel RZ-1 Awing model itself, but obviously not the dial, you'll have to use the Resistance RZ-2 Awing dial as it is named differently.

lots of people fly alternative painted ships (all my ships are painted, and never had an issue), and because these 2 Awings will never be able to be in the same list, your opponents should know which ones they are (i.e. if you say you're flying Resistance they will know it's the RZ-2), especially as the RZ-2 will have a turret indicator on the base of the model to.

i suspect that RZ2 have rotating guns, so there would be a main difference. Other minor different lines in the model could be traced. RZ1 is more... "round", a nice little chubby fighter. RZ 2 seems more thinner and light.

And herein lies the problem with this though. By the time you've bought some RZ-2 dials and pilot cards and base chits to play say 3 or 4 of them, you may as well have paid for the expansions anyway and you'll have the models lol

These dials/cards/chits won't be as readily available and cheap as the Conversion Kit ones, as the only way you can get them is with the ship model.

As it is related with this topic, and just To have it clear:

Can Scum Millenium Falcon be used in rebel squads?

(And visa versa)

RAW: no, as per the above mentioned rules

But, just like mentioned above, I would be surprised and chagrined if someone made a stink about it. Check with the TO ahead of time if you're talking it to an official event, I expect most would allow it.

As long as you have the correct dial and chit.
