This item comes out of House of Dust and Ash... space marine shoulder plate... I've been wracking my brain and scouring the interwebs, for the sweet love of the Emperor, does anyone know which chapter this belongs to? lmao. I want to do something with it, but I'd rather not screw up the heraldry heh. Pre-thanks if anyone knows if this is an established chapter or just something they threw in.
Black Fanged Skull on a Red Pauldron...
Sounds similar enough to be a derivative of the Flesh Eaters chapter
And then theres the Skull Bearers
But i really think it's This little Black Skull on a Red Background...
Marines Exemplar
While I am not that much about marines, the examples given by velvet are either "not fanged" or "not skulls" but only jaws.
As far as I can remember, the traitor Legion called "Wordbearers" had a distinctively fanged skull...but there was a yellow-orange flame in the background. So, they are "out" as well.
I think, you are safe to treat it as an "unestablished chapter". Hack, even if their is an marine fanboy running around in your group proclaiming that you are !WRONG and that he is right in that it is chapter XYZ ...you are free to lean back, relax and tell him in your most southing voice that "the skull on the item you have looks way to different".
It is not like we would have been provided with a picture... same thing as with this Lizard-Beast in "Illumination".
Also, some Chapters use such a skull on the shoulderpads of 1st Company Veterans. Fruit for thought.
the space wolves use a fanged skull as a badge for the long fangs (heavy weapon marines)

Yes, but Long Fangs don't use red in their markings. Grey Hunters on the other hand, do. However, since the pauldron is supposed to be from an unknown chapter, I strongly doubt it is supposed to be Space Wolf iconography. Not everything needs an explanation. Below are the typical colors used for Space Wolf pack markings.
- Blood/Sky Claws - Red and Yellow
- Grey Hunters - Red and Black
- Wolf Guard - Black and Yellow
- Lang Fangs - White and Black
- Wolf Scouts - Black on Grey

ah wasnt aware of the above, the space wolves 13th company do use red and black though for their markings
ooooh, I hadn't thought of that heh, me and mine simply assumed it was a chapter badge, but you're absolutely right, it could be a company marking, in which case, that does change things around alot (and of course, makes for more vague lol). 13th Company Space puppies huh... *ponders* I suppose Calixis IS sort of near the Eye of Terror kinda... heh
I would sooner empty my boltgun into a so-called "13th Company" mongrel. Ten thousand years inside the Eye makes them exactly two things: Tainted and traitors! They bear the clear and undeniable mark of filthy Chaos beastmen upon their warped and twisted bodies. What wanton mockery of the Holy human form! Best to wipe them all out and burn the remains to ash, lest any corrupted Geneseed escape your righteous purification!

So, when you've finished trying to kill off the chosen veterans and most beloved warriors of the missing-not-dead Primarch Leman Russ (the original 13th Company consisted of the Wolf King's favoured comrades from his days ruling Fenris), what will you do next? Spit on the stasis-vault containing Roboute Guilliman? Use Rogal Dorn's skeletal hand as a back-scratcher? It all amounts to the same thing in the end - defiling the memory of a Primarch.
Only in this case, there's still a possibility of that Primarch emerging from where ever he went and killing you painfully for insulting him and his sons.

Be so kind and kill Abaddon on the way.
Perhaps the pauldron belongs to the chapter that FFG will introduce in Deathwatch along the more well-known ones?
And what about the very primarch of the Blood Angels chapter then? Their Primarch Sanguinius actually was "touched" by the warp and had angelic wings....how about going after and exacting Exterminatus against that chapter as well?...lol....as for the ORIGINAL posting and its question...It is stated that there are MANY unidentified/unnamed Adeptus Astartes chapters within the Imperium...which gives you the GM creative reign <laughs maniacally> If youd like a few simple plot ideas then...
1) "Lost" chapter just coming back from "wherever they were lost at"
2) Traitor legion created from a splinter faction of one of the original traitor legions during the heresy...given chaos usual means of the powers pitting their own forces against eachother for sport or training....someone was bound to get really pissed by this and broke off to form their own legion ( likely under Khorne because of their thirst for revenge not just on their former parent legion but also the corpse god and his servants/followers)
3) There are two other First Founding Legions whose names and histories are totally unknown. Following the Horus Heresy all historical records mentioning these Legions were revised or destroyed, in order to erase them from Imperial history. Given the authoritarian nature of the Imperium, it seems likely these Legions were completely removed from all historical records for some sort of castrophe such as mass mutation which couldn't be controlled, turning to the worship of the Chaos Gods, etc.....( Wonder what a truly diabolically minded GM could do with this kind of idea
Anyway these are just a few ideas of what you could do with the emblem and such. I hope this was of some help. Game on
Couldn“t it be pauldron of the Charnel Guard, which fought alongside one of the greatest Haarlock lineage rivals of the past, Korbrras Aquirre? I always associate word "Charnel" with red colour.
