What happened to epic format? is it dead? dormant? poised for a revamp?
What happened to epic?
It is still in 1st edition. There still are players and some are trying a 1.5 variant to hold over until FFG reinstates huge ships in 2nd edition, often using 2nd edition for only the smaller craft and the huge ships still use the 1st edition upgrades and huge ship rules. Instead of Epic Points, you have a huge ship limit and a 2nd edition escort limit.
J35u5 you people are impatient. The new editions only been out for a few months, wave 2 hasn’t even hit shelves yet, and they also have 2 whole new (and much more popular) factions they need to release and bring up to speed. If it’s not announced by waves 5 or 6 then maybe start complaining.
The rules reference says that the epic conversion is coming at some point in the future. But as you can see, the release schedule is choke full at the moment.

Not much at all.
It’s dead until FFG decides they need to release a new super important upgrade for the die hard tournament players.
Then we will see epic 2.0 come out, and we will all be happy to be able to play 2.0 huge ships, and the forums will be salty as ever that FFG is “making” them buy an $80 model (or maybe a conversion kit?) for a card.
The same thing that happened to Jar Jar Binks.

Impatience is good. It means there is still active interest in the game. Complete apathy is what should be concerning.
I wouldn’t be too surprised at all if somewhere around wave five or six we began to hear murmurings… I would expect conversion kits for the first edition epic ships, and actual release of a republic and a separatist ship. Clone Wars would it be an incredible era for epic to return, really.

You're kidding right?
Because epic players have not gotten a release since June 2017.
How happy would you be if Standard had not changed at all in almost 2 years?????
If nothing happens till wave 5 or 6, that's easily another year or 2.
Wave 5 is the earliest I would guess as well, because wave 4 will be their first wave where they are not bringing a new faction in to the game so I could see it being used as a bit of a breather and to help release a few support cards for those popular ships that feel like they are missing something (in the form factor of re-releases, maybe 1 new ship as well for few factions).

Wave 4 could be where they drop the conversion kits for epic...
Epic has always been the red-headed stepchild of X-Wing Miniatures. It's cool to have the huge ships available, but in my experience Epic takes much longer to play. (Including setup and break down) Our Epic nights at the local league usually involved 2 players to a side, splitting the load of managing all the ships, and usually a single Epic game would take the whole night, (if we finished the game, which was rare, usually we would have to stop the game when the store was closing) whereas we could get two standard games in the same amount of time, plus time for goofing around between games.
Add in that many players didn't even have Epic ships, limiting the pool of available Epic players, and it's a format that just doesn't get the attention a standard game does.
I made up a compromise format, Mini-Epic, that the players seemed to like. 150 pts, 2 Epic points, standard 3x3 mat. Not quite Epic, but a bit more doable for a casual game night.
IMO Epic was a bad decision. Either make it a part of the standard game, or don't do it at all. **** or get off the pot.
What happened to Epic? They made Armada.
FFG should drop epic and focus on Armada (hopefully 2nd Edition) after releasing new 2nd Edition cardboard for the Epic ships.

Now that's a topic if you want to talk about waiting years for something new.

That's actually what I like about it. I'd rather play a single long game the whole night than one extra micro game.
Also, at the level of Epic you can really start to do things like missions and scenarios that are tough to flesh out at 200-points-standard.

They don't play anything like one another. There should be room for both.
And if FFG jerks me over by ending my favorite version of XWM, I'm certainly not going to go buy a different game made by them.

wow you really are self absorbed huh? just because you dont care doesnt mesn no one does. many people only or mostly played epic in 1.0, and its fair to wonder how many years FFG is going to ignore us. plus for those of us waiting to convert the epic kit is part of conversion cost, so knowing how that works is important.
the crux of it is that there is no reason for delaying epic. most of us could make well considered 2.0 rules fot epic in a week by ourselves, and many have. FFG could have included it in wave 1, but they are choosing not to, which is worrysome

the 2 are unrelated.
maybe microsoft should drop halo to make more phones. makes about as much sense

I’d rather play long, well, epic games as well. I’m just not so self absorbed that I think FFG should ignore the 99% of the fan base who want the core game updated and concentrate on fulfilling my needs right out of the gate.

On the other hand, we paid an awful lot of money for models. Which are now only decoration pieces.

You don’t use your X-wing models as stand ins for armada fighters? Amateur. ?
Edited by FlyingAnchorsjust take your epic-only stuff, double the point cost; play 2nd-edition epic

I wouldn’t even double the points. Huge ships were always hideously over costed, just keep them as is so the format is more about huge ships. There’s already a thread in the epic section talking about how that works fine.
