What happened to epic?

It’s not a lie at all - they specifically said it woulnd’t always be in the same wave.

Its deception and certainly anti-consumer. The ONLY reason to faction restrict upgrades (like 0-0-0) is to sell more product. Its the same for the core set. Include more in the core in order to increase the price to drive sales.

FFG knew they were doing 7 factions. They expect people to take their exploitation and also at the same time say you can be faction specific. Its talking out of both sides of their mouths.

Also a really annoying trait, but I try to ignore threads about “the meta” because I don’t care, whereas I’m actually interested in epic play.

The meta is whatever it will be. However, I am also interested in Epic. Although, I never liked the full 300 pt format in 1.0. I instead played 150 pt's as that was the sweet spot for our gaming group regarding setup time and game time (lasting about the same as a normal 100 pt standard game).

I'm not arguing about whether it's anti-consumer or not, but how is it a lie? They SPECIFICALLY SAID not to expect all upgrades for each faction in the same wave, and you're acting like they said they the exact opposite.

Meh, who cares. If you think FFG is being anti-consumer, be anti-FFG and print out a copy. If you need the card for a tournament, just borrow it. As a TO I'll happily lend out a couple of cards unless the recipient is excessively scruffy-looking, and even then double-sleeving will probably prevent any damage.

I miss epic though. Didn't get to play it very often, and yeah, the games took a long time and were sometimes decided relatively early on, but it was fun. Scratched a similar itch to 40k I guess. Hope it comes back next year.

You are describing Armada. If I wanted to play Armada, I would play Armada, not Epic X-Wing.

No, I am not describing Armada. Armada feels like big ships at the center of conflict. Epic should feel like like a high stakes game where you field loads of fast moving fighters and one huge ship to accomplish a mission. Streamlining squadrons does not automatically make it Armada. I get a bit tired of people being so black and white - see some subtlety man! Having one turn template or one action for a group of ships but providing a squadron bonus for them flying in unison both speeds up play and makes it even more fun. It's one of many concepts I've thought of to make a really big game of pew-pewing fighters move quickly. Time is always the enemy of wargames. At some point you get tired of playing, which reduces the fun level which makes players less interested which leads to the demise of a game. A new dynamic is required for Epic to survive as a viable game.

I've read through it and I really like it! It's a testament to how devoted players are and how creative we can be, both as individuals and as a community. I'm hoping FFG does the game justice - really, hoping they read some of the ideas posed.

I'd love to try out an Epic game with the LawstDragon rules - I actually need to find some local Epic players (my FLGS plays X-wing only - not even Armada or Legion). I guess that's my other hope - local players actually wanting to play Epic. It's harder to get people to try unofficial rules, even if they're good.

My first few games I had to loan gear for epic.

That ended after not too long as suddenly folks had the stuff.

I think if more people played Epic, more people would like Epic.

Too often, it's "I bought it for the card, but I've never tried."

I essentially have. However:

A. I wait 2 years until Epic shows up, and then when I finally decide to convert there are no conversion kits being manufactured anymore.

B. I convert now, and discover that Epic is as big of a joke as the app.

C. I trust a company that pooched the app and the blue line on the last Huge ship release and pray that it all works out.

All three are pretty lame options, given that I could give a fudge about Standard as a fall-back plan.

Assuming A. becomes true, your best bet is to buy the conversion kits you need and store them in their shrink-wrap. Then if you later decide not to convert, with the conversion kits not being manufactured anymore, you can probably resell them without a loss. If you do decide to convert, you'll just be glad you made the investment 2 years beforehand.

Except that I do, in fact, vote with my wallet.

No support for me = no support for you.

If this makes you sleep at night, then you are the master. However, do make sure you are indeed voting with your wallet and not your pride.

In 1.0, I was a spender.

Impatience is good. It means there is still active interest in the game. Complete apathy is what should be concerning.

like me with WK and Star Trek attack wing....It has so much potential.....

I haven’t bought a single 2.0 ship or conversion kit yet. If they drop another Huge ship, I’ll most likely be all over it. Then, I’ll convert it to 1.0 because there’s no way I’m converting all 100+ ships I own. Many are customs with their own laminated, custom damage decks and upgrade cards. It’s simply too much work to redo it all. Plus, I’d rather just buy more ships than cardboard conversion kits for everything I own.

If I decide to design a custom Cinematic Play Republic/CIS scenario, I’ll likely do it in 2.0. I have very few ships of that era so I won’t have to rework anything. Plus, you can’t really do the Republic without the Jedi abilities added in 2.0. I already have a rough idea for a scenario but have a couple others planned before I can get to that point.
