Is force becoming a meta requirement for competitive lists?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

So Force is powerful. It is essentially free calculate tokens and with force upgrades you can do things that could only be done in 1st edition such as out initiative the highest pilot initiative or auto evade attacks. Luke is known as one of the best pilots (I know weak argument since Rebels are not doing so well). But other force pilots such as inquisitor or just having a force crew/gunner can give non force pilots access to the versatile force token.

So just wondering do you consider force a requirement for list building in the meta or do you ignore it and fly force free squadrons.?

Requirement? Nope. A powerful bonus if you can squeeze it into a list? Yup! Force users are always pricey and I'd rather be able to squeeze more ships into a list than build around a force user (unless there's some insane symmetry happening).

But that's NOW. With Clone Wars steamrolling our way soon, it'll be interesting to see how the new force powers work with our current force users.

Right now, no, they aren't a requirement. There's not that many of them and each has its own positives and negatives (usually cost at a minimum) that make them comparable to non-unique pilots.

That said, when the Republic faction is released, that may change because of the influx of new Force Pilots and abilities. I doubt it though. As long as they are costed fairly they will be fine.

I think of them as a different class of ace, or a way to get super-fight performance on chassis's that aren't as strong. When we see a Force user in a super fighter, that is when things will get interesting.

Here's hoping that never happens.

From what I've seen of the competitive scene, the most viable Force-using options are:

1) Darth Vader

2) Luke Skywalker

3) Darth Vader (only the pilot this time)

And I wouldn't call any of those dominant. In fact, Scum seems to be doing quite well with precisely zero Force tokens in the top lists we've seen. The most common Force user seems to be Vader crew, and he primarily uses his token to power a strong and synergistic card ability.

A fair part of that is Scum only has 2 options to add force tokens to their lists. Assaj in the Lancer and the Maul crew... Maul is probably priced right where he needs to be, but the Lancer is meh. Fearless Sabine with Perceptive Copilot does look interesting, though she isn't a force user.

Isn't it mostly just Vader crew and Luke?

And isn't Vader crew mostly for the effect, not the token itself?

Do bombers use Force???? NOOOO?

Does Boba use the Force???? NOOOOOOOO?

But they are a force to be reckoned with

If you think about it, Quadjumpers are kinda the most realistic force users in the game of X-wing.

Lattz...

Required, no. Force is useful though, especially when you are looking at aces/anti-aces lists, due to the initiative abilities and Force's ability to modify dice without using a green token that can be stolen/abused by the enemy. On lower initiative lists though, Force is less useful and a points-sink.

Its not force thats a requirement but double mods, 1 for offense 1 for defense. Bonus for being block proof as well.

Boba has han perceptive copilot, or just ig88 crew. Palob has double focus going into battle. Guri gets calc plus a focus at range 1.

Thats what is gonna save you fighting against the avg of 3.7 ships (or whatver it is) in the meta.

This.

The Force will be a strong part of the meta, but no worse than the other non-Force answers like the ones we’ve seen adopted in the early 2.0 extended meta.

Sure, but the question asked is: "Forsooth, are you forced to use the Force in your force, or it is just a farce?"
