I've been playing X-Wing for about two years, never had a serious issue with the 1st edition and I'm not planing to change to the 2nd. Does anybody know a fanbased blog or website with rules or some samples how to change material of the 2nd edition to the 1st? I only play casual, so no problem with tournaments.

The first edition was not balanced anymore, at this point whatever you do could not really unbalance it anymore.

Power creep in First Edition left the game a bit too unbalanced... Second Edition was designed to rein in some of that craziness. The trouble is, even if you account for the higher point values, Second Edition ships are almost universally overpriced compared to their First Edition counterparts (with the exception of some ships, like the HWK, who got far better in 2nd Ed). There could also be some troubling synergies between 1st and 2nd ships and cards which could break the game...
