Brilliant Evasion Luke 2 attack die Swarm Killer?

By Cloaker, in X-Wing

Outside of the juke-counter idea, it’s obviously designed mostly for three-evade ships. That considered, plus Luke’s insane force regen to begin with... it’s obviously not going to be a staple for him in the same way SR is.

But more options is always great.

This is so true. Tugboats are the only things sometimes I feel keeping Acewing at bay. Force users HATE them!

so what you're saying is we need more tugboats?

whole heartedly agree!

...but seriously yeah, we need more stuff that gives low I some kind of advantage so it isn't a completely braindead decision to immediately reach for the highest Initiative

It's a really bad card... both in general and even specifically on Luke vs. swarms. Even on 3 defense dice it's not very good.

Even ignoring bullseye and all the rest, best case:
Without it you can take 9.281 howl swarm shots: http://xwing.gateofstorms.net/2/ship_durability/?d=AgAAAAMAABEB&a=AQI
With it you can take 9.473: http://xwing.gateofstorms.net/2/ship_durability/?d=AgAAAAMAABEB&a=AQI

And that's starting with only 1 force on the first shot (via Luke's ability). It would even be ever-so-marginally-lower if you start with 2.

In general effects that require you to roll multiple of a specific result to trigger are usually not good.

Yeah, this card is competing with Heightened Perception for worst force power. This has better be dirt cheap if it ever wants to see play.

I say forget the math.

You're gonna' roll an eye and wish you had this, someday.

I can only dream of rolling focus on my green dice...

I get it sometimes but can't always take advantage of it.

Man, what sordid history do you have with Green dice that continues to plague you to this day?

I mean, we all have those times.

Played a game yesterday with Palp in a Jendon shuttle, and Vader and Marek running point.

I literally, only once, over the course of the game modified a die using force. Only once modified using focus. And it wasn’t for lack of tokens! I always had modified attack and defense rolls. Marek got nearly one shotted, with focus, by a B-Wing shooting unmodified dice. Vader nearly got one shotted by by a B-Wing with focus and full force tokens. Died to a second shot, at range, from a Y-Wing primary with all the tokens still left.

It was the most amazing thing, I think I rolled 5 focus results all game, and 3 of them were excess defense result.

Some times you gotta laugh.

If it's cheap (2-3 points), it's decent on lower initiative, 3 agility, cheap ships.

Delta 7s (without 7B), Inquisitors, stuff like that.

Low initiative and price makes them not want SR - it's not worth 12 points on a 40 point platform. But 2 points to convert both agility 16-25% (range 1/2, range 3/obstructed) of the time isn't bad at all, with Sense being situational and more expensive, and and Heightened Perception / Instinctive Aim being also situational but also almost actively bad.

If you're running I6 Anakin, and he's like 60+ points, you probably want SR. If you have 2 agility or less, you probably want SR, maybe Sense, or nothing.

But it's a solid choice on cheap, low-I ships. Four points would be pushing it, two points would be about right.

Maybe that is the whole design intent. With all the low Force users coming into the game it will give them a chance to stick around after the alpha.

Vader is useless without supernatural, even if this was free I'd never take this on Vader over supernatural.

As for Luke, he is never in short supply of force tokens, so a card enabling him to be a bit more efficient with them a tiny fraction of the time doesn't add much value.

I guess you'll just have to convert to Republic for your Delta7/b Anakin.

Stealth device luke backed by Jyn Erso in a Sabine Attack Shuttle (also with stealth and debris gambit)

3 defence dice, infinite focus, and an evade until Sabine goes down.
