Vulture Droid Pilot - New Unique Mechanic?

By GizmotronX5000, in X-Wing

Has anyone noticed this? This pilot has 3 unique dots next to their name. What do we think this could mean? Some kind of swarm mechanic?

I can't really tell from the spread, but it seems like another pilot may have 2 dots as well.

Its how many of that ship you can have in a list. Its in the rules now, just not utilized other than one for limited.

Cool!

(but why are they limiting a ship that was know for their numbers?)

You can have 3 of that specific pilot/pilot ability. Spam generics to your hearts' content.

They are limiting that specific “pilot”, same as Luke Skywalker has a single dot next to his name means you can only have 1 of him, but lots of x-wings.

Oh, that's very interesting.

What's REALLY interesting, is that the pilot "***Precise Hunter" can be in different ships.

So you can run 2 Vulture Precice Hunters with a Trifighter Precice Hunter, or 3 trifighter Precice Hunters, but not 5 Precice Hunter vultures.

They certainly could do that. Don’t know if they will.

It's been lurking in the RRG this whole time!

"Some ship cards and upgrade cards have limitations. These limited cards are identified by a number of bullets (•) to the left of their names. During squad building, a player cannot field more copies of cards that share that name than the number of bullets in front of the name.

• For example, if one bullet appears in front of a card’s name, it can be included only once in a squad. Likewise, if two bullets appear in front of a card’s name, it can be included up to twice in a squad."

Its a... New design space! *chugs*

Has anyone else noticed that it appears that there's also a two-dot Vulture droid? The next-to-last card appears to be "**Major <something".
Given that "Kraken" has a requirement of "Solitary", I can't help but wonder if that requirement means that the equipping ship must be single-dot limited.

Second to last looks like Haor Chall with two pips. Haor Chall was the original manufacturer of the Vulture droid so possibly Haor Chall Prototype or something along those lines. Limited to two per squad. The one to its left is a single pip and looks like "Off"(???)

I LOVE that the generic "Trade Federation Droid" is I1, and the "Seperatist Droid" is I3.

So far...I feel like ffg NAILED the Vulture.

Good call on the Haor Chall. I'm pretty sure that isn't "Off" but rather "DFS", which would match the bottom-most ship tile in that image, which appears to be "DFS-311".

That would make sense paired with the single pip. :) Nice spot.

makes sense. in the canon, the Trade Federation used fairly basic AI programs for their droids, which was why they required the control ships. the Separatists used more complex AI programs, letting the droids operate without a central control center.. but those programs also basically required them to overclock the droid's hardware, which is why the B1's often "chattered" and all of them acted goofy at times. that they'd do something similar with the Vultures makes sense.

These will be cool. Already know my wallet will hate me.

On the bright side you can get 4 Belballub fighters for free, if you max out your separatist paint-job vultures. :D

Seriously considering it too, unless the Buzz Droid missile is only included in the stand alone expansion in which case I'll probably go for 3 Sep packs and 2 Vulture droid packs.

Right? I’ll start with a pair; 4 matching Vultures is a decent place to start for a miniswarm ❤️

Anyone point out the vulture droids' baked in ability? It says something along the lines of spending friendly ships' calculate tokens as if they were your own while attacking or defending.

It says:

While you defend or perform an attack you may spend 1 calculate token from a friendly ship at range 0-1 to change a focus result to an evade or a hit result.

That's my plan so far. I will go in for a single Vulture too, because I am absolutely sure it will have at least one important card not available in the SoS pack. Time will tell how many more we will need of each.
