Clone Wars for X-wing...A Sign of Things to Come?

By Syleh Forge, in Star Wars: Armada

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2018/11/9/enter-the-clone-wars/

Article dropped for X-wing, and while i enjoy X-wing - Armada is my true love so i didnt care much. Then i saw the picture in the scrawl and noticed some Seperatist ships fighting a Venator and thought that perhaps this is a sign.

Obviously we've been wondering for years about this but now 1 product line is moving in that direction. Its interesting

I wouldn't hate it - while the fighters from that era were interesting, the capital ships were particularly awesome.

Still, it'd be a bit of stretch for Armada - not quite sure there is the ship variety to support them as new factions. Although that doesn't mean we'd NEVER see those ships - the Venator flew in Imperial colors at the end of Episode III, and we've seen in canon comics and books various Separatist ships (including the giant Lucrehulk-class droid control ships) being flown by the Rebellion.

As their own factions, though? Republic only has, what, 5 types of ships seen on-screen? The Venator, Acclamator, Pelta, Arquitens, Consular-class, and...? I think that's it. The Seps have more variety, although they run into the problem that most of their ships dwarf even the Imperial-class Star Destroyer, so...

Well, scale has always been a flexible concept in Armada.

I’d be up for a separatist faction for sure. Republic could be fun as well. Although I’d want cross faction ships - particularly the Acclamator & Venator for the Empire.

I would rather them revamp the squadron system before clone wars.

I am ok with this.

>Thinks about buying a few expansions to try

>Sees they put Sinker in an ARC-170

He’s infantry, you fools! Get him out of Warthog’s chair. Not sure I’ll buy in anymore if they already have inaccuracies.

When asked about clone wars for Armada there was a lot of "HMMMM THAT IS INTERESTING."

Much more a wink nudge that it's being considered or developed but release would definitely be some ways off.

So regarding ship variety, The imperials literially have 2 capital ships on screen in the OT, ISD's and the SSD.

Also the only Separatist ship massed produced bigger then the ISD is the lucrhulk. The other ships in the movies are similar in size or smaller then the VSD

Some nice caps in the pictures on the front page. Look good on the front of some Armada Expansions.

OT era includes the 'Rebels' TV series, though - which gives us the Quasar Fire, Arquitens, Interdictor, and Gozers. And obviously we're talking TV series, as otherwise the Republic only managers the Acclamator, Venator, and Consular-class...the rest were from the 'Clone Wars' TV series.

As to the Sep ships - wish that was true. The Subjugator-class was 4800 meters (3 times an ISD's length), Providence-class (as seen in Episode III) about 2200 meters (30-ish% longer than an ISD), the Recusant almost double it again, etc

One of the smallest ships the Seps ran was the Munificent-class, and at 825 meters...it is, indeed, right about the size of a VSD.

1) what is the subjugator?

2) according to everything I have ever scene the Providence-class is about 1000 meters, I dont know where this 2000 number comes froms (it's definitely not 3 times this size of the venator that singlehandedly destroyes it in episode 3)

1 Malevolence.

2 I agree.

Ahh yes I forgot about the Malevolence, that would make a good SSD counter part eventually. But it wasn't a standard production ship just a one off prototype that was crippled by a squadron of bombers (basically space bismark now that I think about it...)

There were two variants using the Providence design: the 1,088 meter Providence-class Carrier/Destroyer and the 2,177 meter Separatist Dreadnought.

Also, the stealth ship should make an appearance as a unique craft. The Praetor-class battlecruiser would be a cool addition (and big enough to be a Providence counterpart if they choose the pair the Venator and Munificent,) but its use in the Republic Navy is no longer canon and as such it's an unlikely choice.

Is there a cannon example of this 2177 m long version?

IOW, lazy CGI team doesn't pay attention to the scale they are rendering models at.

(Who knew that it wasn't just Star Trek that did that kind of nonsense?!)

IOW? And yes lots of things have inconsistent scale in movies haha

The Clone Wars episode "Cat and Mouse" prominently featured Trench's flagship the Invincible, which has been confirmed to be the larger variant.

It is a sign of more new X-wing articles, news, and products to come over the next several months....

Instead of Armada articles you say?

I feel it has no positive effects for Armada. They didn't even give a clone wars tease with Armada when they announced it for the other games. It would not surprise me if they put out the SSD and call it a game. I'm not saying I think that is the most likely scenario, but without even a vague teaser of anything else in over a year, every other star wars game using a new world champ system, and no end in sight for rapid xwing/legion releases.... it's more likely to be getting shelved than some giant massive wave coming.. hopefully they do an app and a wave 8 soon.

Which is weird, because they could have easily gone with the Recusant-class, which would have that sense of scale they'd want...

...and is such a fascinatingly Frankenstein-y sort of ship.

Kind of a lot of the Sep ships are, really, which is part of what would make them an interesting faction - very visually distinct without going full-on "organic"-style (IE., Vong or something like them)

I think it's more about the Providence being the "Evil Boss" ship, and consistently maintaining that appearance. Dooku, Grievous and Ventress all used one as their flagship, after all.

Not just X-Wing, Destiny is also getting Clone Wars and eventually Legion is getting Clone Wars.

Destiny has had clone wars for a while now.
