Question of 4 DE cards...Ulthuan

By Drakson, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

This has come up in play. I have just been playing a short while. Really enjoying it however. These are all DE card questions.

1. Hars Ganeth..Support..At the beginning of your turn, return one target unit with less than 2 hit points to its owner,s hand.

Question...Can the player then decide to sacrifice that unit ( for whatever reason on the card) instead of putting it back in his hand?

2. Invoke Khaine's Wrath..Tactic card...Spell Play at the end of any battlefield phase.

Action...Destroy all units that participated in combat this phase.

Question...A player said I'm attacking your battlefield (phase 1) then comes Actions,THEN the opponent played this card before attackers was declared. So would the attacking player units be destroyed but not the defending player, because he did not declare any defenders so did not participate? Also if a unit is destroyed can a player play a tactic that says " cancel all damage " and stop them from being destroyed.

3.Shades.. Scout...Unit...Discard one card at random from opponent's hand if this unit survives combat. IF the Scout is not declared as a defender in the zone it is in, or if it is in a different zone than attacked, would that be considered surviving combat.

4. Corsairs of Ghround...Unit...Forced. When this unit leaves play, one target unit gets -2 hit points until the end of turn. So if he is attacking and then takes enough damage back from defending unit to be killed, how would he target a unit for -2 hit points. Or if he were defending and took enough damage to kill him, how does he target another unit for -2 hit points till the end of turn.

Thanks is advance. I have looked over most of the forum and hope I have not asked questions that have been answered and my beady little eyes just did not see them.

1) Yes, if an action that sacifices as part of cost or effect is played in response.

2) If you are the active player and you play this without declaring attackers, i'd take it to mean that you did not attack this turn and thus its effect is cancelled out as there were no attackers or defenders. If attackers were already declared, you have to wait until all combat damage is applied to units and/or capital zones before you can play this card.. Cancelling damage does not prevent Khaine's Wrath from destroying units then; whether damage is cancelled or not, the units that participated in combat are destroyed at the end of the Battlefield Phase.

3) No. They must have participated in combat as either attacker or defender

4) Corsairs simply just target a unit and that unit loses 2 HP until the end of turn immediately when they leave play. This cannot be responded to or cancelled or anything because it is a Forced effect; in other words, when this unit leaves play, immediately target a unit to lose 2 HP. One of your units must be chosen if opponent has none and if there are no units then no units lose the HP obviously. When you've done that, the game continues.

You can only play this card at the end of a battlefield phase, you can not play this card before attackers are declared.

Since there are 5 phases of battle, could player 1 declare he is attacking, then player 2 play the card before Defenders were declared, In other words, could player 2 then destroy player 1 attacking units without destroying his own.

I repeat my last post but, you can not play Invoke Khaine's wrath when you say :

Text card is :

Play at the end of any battlefield phase . Action: Destroy all units that participated in combat this phase.

There is only one battlefield phase, with 5 sub-phase.

The end is, after all damage are applied, and after each player decline to take an action.

Edit : Now I understand your misundestanding, "play at the end of any battlefied phase" does not mean at all, that you can play this card at the end of each sub-phase of the battlefield phase.

Thanks, I was getting phase mixed up with sub-phase. Makes sense now.

In game lingo they are not sub-phases they are Combat Steps. When something refers to a phrase it always refers to the one of the named phases shown in the rulebook.
