Rebels Lurking...

By Bucknife, in X-Wing

I think we're gonna see a lot of frustrated Rebels picking up Resistance to get that good 'ol feeling of OP back.

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTtgeHRdP9e5nJkDTfX6ne

.. . its just a hunch.

I just need me some spoiled resistance bomber content. And some more A-Wing awesomeness.

The 1.0 Effect :

The factions that best support that good 'ol 1.0 combo play will be the most popular. (Hey it's just human nature; most of us want to fly easy-win squads)

Rebels had it goooood in first edition.

Now...Welcome to 2.0.

Imps get the crews and combos they always wanted, and Rebs lose Super-Miranda and Heros of the Resistance.

But, when Resistance drops with their "Aces" style faction pilots, I feel like all the old 1.0 rebs will be happy again.

Until Gunner Luke goes down 5 or 10 points and Rebel fat turrets come back.

Then they'll all rush back to their "Modified" Rebel Falcons. Lol.

I (want to) believe that the Rebels will get a lot better as more expansions are released. That they didn’t come out of the gates with everything because that would leave nothing to move forward. (FFG still has to sell products, so they couldn’t pack it all in the conversion kit.)

I don’t get to play that often, but it seems that the faction identity could be fleshed out more, too.

Everytime a generic crew gets released, its a possibility of rebel dominance with VCX and Falcons and YT2400s ready to pounce. Luke is just waiting for his super wingmate, but for now he has to fly with scrubs (sorry, Wedge)

A good generic crew under 4 points and suddenly quad wookiees reappear!

If 20-25 pts for a free rotate before you fire is what’s keeping turrets from viability, then people really just need to learn to fly them better ?

Nope. For the first time in this game I have a vaguely viable Wedge Antilles.

I don't care if he's not actually that good, or how many podcasts point out that in (a cherry picked selection of) tournaments all the lists with him did worst, or how bad the Rebels around him are, or how good Whisper and Boba are.

Playing him finally doesn't feel like an exercise in futility and I'm not jumping ship for 'new hotness' Poe when I've just got Rogue Leader back.

I'm holding out for Tycho in a form that means he actually has some offence. All Wedge needs is to have an independent, nimble, action economic flanker to either take some heat off him or run rampant (the Fel to Wedge's Whisper, if you will) and I'm convinced Tycho is the man for the job. It's also

So attempting to decipher this mess of a comment, you think people will fall back to super turrets for rebels or switch to resistance aces style play, and that imperial favor is currently due to their crew options, and the only thing keeping rebel fat turrets from making a come back is an overcosted Luke gunner upgrade?

I think not on all accounts, you may want to take a hard look at the current top flavors, Boba+ and Tie bomber barrage rockets. It seems 3-4 ships are the current flavor, and they either do a bunch of things decently (Boba) or one thing really well (bomber swarm). Big turrets don’t really have a place in this format, and until the chassis is cheap enough you can make a decent 3 ship list. So if anything I expect the lower Ps pilots to drop maybe 5 points, but I doubt Luke gunner is going to get cheaper anytime soon. And that’s just extended format. In 2.0 format, you have the Howlrunner/Iden combo swarm, a 2 ship list is not going to fare well against that combo.

I agree. 1st edition wedge was always walking on thin ice, with spiked metal shoes. 2nd edition he has a real chance.

While I’m hoping for Tycho, I’m also curious to see what they do with Shara Bey. I hope they’ll either make her I-6, or bump tycho to I-6 and let her have the I-5 spot.

Tbh I don’t think I’d take Gunner Luke for more than 18 points?

If I want the force in a Gunner slot, I’m more likely to bring Ezra since his ability will actually be useful sometimes (without flying lazily). Until Luke costs similarly, there’s little reason to consider him.

I was hoping for an RZ2 article today. :(

I think Wedge is a very viable and very capable pilot/ship. I feel part of the issue with his poor showing at tournaments is that higher level players have gravitated towards factions that overall have better efficiency and hence win more games more easily. Once those outlier have been dealt with in the January points adjustments, we'll have a better picture of just how good or "bad" Wedge is.

From my experience, this is because the weight they need to pull in a squad gets handicapped by action-eating-turret-rotations.

Eh....

T-70s that aren't Poe REALLY don't inspire

If rebel players buy into them expecting amazingness, I'd bet they'd start to miss Luke/Wedge/Thane REAL quick

Anyway, all rebels (and basically every large base ship) need is a point adjustment. Really don't need new things

Rebels are on par with other factions, they just require more skill to play effectively. Fight me.

30 pts (for now) to be able to Lock and Rotate Arc, or have positioned properly for a Lock or Focus and guranteed second mod, or be able to Boost or Evade and still have an offensive die mod... Flying lazy my ***.

Somebody gets it!

Looking forward to see what new things come in the 2.0 YT-2400 expansion. I'm guessing some kind of gunner that lets you link rotate actions into red focus or target locks.

Like I said, the force point is the only thing I’m really interested in. Flying Lando a bit, I’ve had very little trouble keeping the arc lined up, and I almost always use the extra action to get double mods, if I don’t pass it along to a friendly.

If they drop any of the rebel crap I like by a few points, Poe and Co. will stay in my tacklebox.

If not... man I wanna run some T70's. I keep wanting a 3 green straight when I go to set an X wing's dial, and it's not there. Hopefully they're not too much more per ship.

Now, while I doubt non-poe t70s overall will shine next to the xwing named pilot abilities, I'm DEFINITELY jumping the rebel ship for republic ARCs ?

Lately I have been flying a *lot* of Wedge (only swarm tactics or zero upgrades) and I think he is well worth the points.

But I guess it is true that even if Wedge performs at 100% (of points) he is nog 'as good as' 110% performing Boba (marauder/han gunner) or similar.

When did you start playing?

Obviously not when J5Ks were good, because then we had 15% Rebels on tournaments at times. Because they ain’t did **** against U-Boats for nearly a year!

Or when Phantoms were good. Because then you needed to play Fat Han as a rebel or lose. And then you got the bad press of the PWT noob player just because you did. Whats not to love about that.

Or in the first few waves when it was Howlswarm or bust.

Rebels had ONE dominant period. Which was the half or 3/4 year before 2.0 After J5Ks got patched out of the game basically.

Collective memory failure i guess.

And now every ship got made useless except for the X-Wing and Sabine because of that.
