Rex begs for Juke mi amigo.

I even think it would be gold on the Onyx

If you'd like more points, drop the Concussion on Rexler for Homing Missiles, they play nicely with Rexler's ability. Concussion's splash face-up is nice against swarms, but not in the initial engagement, during which the Homing Missile is as powerful (only less powerful against low-agi ships). Also, given the cannon, you may want to drop missiles altogether.

and +1 for Juke on Rex.

Rex also wants advanced sensors and juke them expose damage cards.

The absolute minimum change I would go with, would be to drop the Cannon and Missile from the Onyx and switch him for Ryad.

Maximum change, AdvS and Outmanoeuvre Rex and Ryad at 198. But that's really a very unique playstyle.

Alternatively, keep the Col Det on both and give them either HLC or Homing Missiles.

OR Outmanoeuvre, AdvS Ryad with Juke, FCS, Homing Rex.

The Ion Cannon, I would just lose it. You can't really afford the damage drop off with 2 ships. You'll run out of time before you've caused enough hurt.

My Current Double Defender list is this:

Rexler w/ Juke, cluster missiles & FCS = 96

Ryad w/ Juke, HLC & FCS = 97

193

The reason is damage. With only two ships, you really need to get ahead in the damage race, and you can only do that with fully modified shots. Unfortunately, there's no real easy way to get TL + focus in one turn, unless you use Vessery, but the problem with him is that your opponent will wisely go after the other Defender and due to that pressure, make it too risky for you to spend your action on Target Lock.

With this list, the enemy likely will identify Rexler as the biggest threat and go after him first (I always split them up so the enemy has to choose one or the other). This allows Ryad to maybe get some good use out of all of her upgrades. If in the event you are able to be slippery with Rexler and keep him out of trouble (you do this by flying a bit unpredictably), then he can put his upgrades to good use in the late game (once shields are stripped, Juke + his ability makes the cluster missiles far deadlier than they might otherwise appear).

Its not an easy list to fly though. Will take quite a bit of practice to get consistently favourable openings (which this list absolutely depends upon for success).
