Just as long as Bob Iger keeps Kathleen Kennedy far away from this, I am fully on board....

It was Bob who was responsible for the awful 'Solo gets his name' scene making it into the movie - indeed, it was that scene which sold him on the entire premise of the movie being a good idea in the first place.

He was supposedly also the person who insisted on Phil Lord and Chris Miller as the directors for it. Obviously that didn't work out, and ultimately Kennedy fired them and had Ron Howard basically re-shoot the entire movie.

And it was also his decision as to that overly-saturating pace of Star Wars releases, including putting out 'Solo' just 5 months after TLJ.

So...careful where you lay blame, here.

The "How Han gets his last name" was the concept pitch from Lawrence Kasdan to Iger to make the movie. I can't seem to find ANY reference to where it was Iger who insisted on Lord and Miller to direct it. That would have been in Kathleen Kennedy's court to do, since she was in charge of LucasFilm. I put ALL the blame of turning the SW franchise into social justice warrior nonsense straight at Kathleen Kennedy. It has been that way since the day she took over. Iger gave her FULL reign over the franchise. The SW franchise has been in free fall ever since. Rogue One was awesome and I loved Jyn's character in it, but to take the franchise to the extreme SJW limits KK did...it was a disappointment for me. Also, regarding Ron Howard...do you think just once that he could refrain from his trademark "I have to have a scene where my brother is in it"? I just shook my head at that whole scene when you combine it with the SJW robot crying for equal rights. I really hope J.J. can set things right in Episode 9, but I am not holding my breath...**sigh**

I have faith in JJ, his stuff is well done (and regarding your points) tends to avoid SJW stuff, or at least makes it more subtle then like a SJW robot lol

Right, and it was such a stupid idea that if Iger had any competence at all, would have resulting in the script going straight to the bin.

That was a very dumb scene. Not an "oh, man, that's so cool, yes let's make this movie!" scene.

What you call 'SJW', other people call 'finally noticing that there are other people in the world than straight, white, males, and who might like to see someone like themselves in movies'

The franchise has had a lot of missteps, lately, but that's one of the few things they've definitely done right, and I'm very keen to see more of it.

Yeah, except obviously he didn't. In even the two links I provided - he's acknowledged to have interfered. And that's what is public information volunteered in interviews - the rumor mill suggests he's been doing a lot more meddling than that.

Millions of Star Wars fans (including me) would beg to differ sadly...

Yeah let’s keep it away from that. It’s ok to just hate it on its own merit. ?

I finally, grudgingly, watched Solo two days ago. It’s fine. Kind of bland, kind of lame, but not the traiwreck I had been led to believe. It was better than TLJ...a little. And for the record SCREW whoever the Disney A-hole was who threw Han’s actor under the bus for needing acting lessons...you make a movie like that and blame the actor YOU cast? He was not even close to the worst part of the film...

Agreed, I loved the Actors, Han was fine, Qi-ra was good (side note Game of thrones is slowly taking over star wars) I forgot his name (Becket?) but the outlaw mentor was Good, the bad guy was good, no actor complaints

Man Han missed the opportunity: Han Solo "Father of Dragons!"

Millions love the new movies as well. Believe it or not, movie audiences include more than just white straight males. It’s about time that other types of characters are being included in movies and television.

The box office numbers tell a very different story my friend and please don't box me into the "straight while male" stereotype.

The actor for the bad guy was fine, sure - but limited by his role, I think. (He's also been in the Avengers movies as Vision, and was amazing as Stephen Maturin in 'Master and Commander')

The role was...just lame. Like...'2-dimensional bad guy' lame.

What made 'Rogue One' work so well was that Krennic, as a character, had some depth and history. He wasn't even evil, per se, just...wanted to climb up the ranks of privilege and didn't really care what that meant or what it caused.

Also, as what amounts to the closest thing the movie has to an antagonist...he doesn't even appear until halfway through the movie. Compare 'Rogue One' or even 'Star Wars'...just, *boom*, opening scene - here's the bad guy, this is what the heroes have to deal with, and go!

True, there are some story elements that are lacking

I think Dryden's role was intended to be limited because IMO he was more of a soldier than a boss. You weren't meant to have more of a back story or care about him at all. There was a hidden, high power in play, hence the scene with Darth Maul and Qi'ra at the end.

Don’t hate the films for diversity. There are so many better things to complain about. Because I love Finn, love L3, like Rose, don’t mind Rey, wouldn’t mind Holdo if she were written better. So yeah, if their inclusion is what you object to, I disagree and it’s subjective, so that’s the end of it. Pick something like writing, or shedding light on Solo’s stories in disappointing ways. Pick the foolishness of Empire mk 2 vs Rebels mk 2.

I don't hate the films and I don't mind having diverse characters in them. It's the in your face social agenda part of the movies that irk me...nothing more.

I guess I'm not clear on exactly what you're referring to, then. Could you elaborate?

At this point, I am just going to take @clontroper5 advice here. I am not a film critic, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night... ??

Really wondering what David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are planning for their Star Wars films, will they be the first to direct a R-rated Star Wars movie for example?

This Cassian Andor news suggests Disney is looking to create adult oriented content for the older part of the fanbase.

Oh don’t get me started. You get a great actress like Laura Dern and give her that drivel of a character? You’re a **** admiral - leave your ******* cocktail dress in your quarters and put some pants on. Was Ellie Saddler elbow deep in triceratops **** in a ******* cocktail dress? Of ******* course not, because she was a ******** professional paleobotanist not a lounge singer.

***********.

Did Picard wear a cocktail dress and heels on the bridge of the Enterprise during Red Alert? No! He kept that **** for diplomatic meetings.

Not sure solo was an 8/10...maybe if there were more Calrissian chronicles then yeah sure...

Yeah I’m also seriously questioning 8/10. But whatever, people can have opinions. People should have opinions.

Solo was a great film. I went into it not wanting it and thinking it'd be terrible. I was wrong and I am happy I was wrong. I truly enjoyed it. They did a great job for the most part capturing Han and Lando, you could seem them slip a few times but overall they did a good job. And I absolutely loved rogue one. Really excited to see this Cassian prequel. Bring us a gritty story along with the Mandalorian.

I haven't been a fan of a lot of the new stuff but I've been really impressed with some of it. Really looking forward to seeing what else we can get

I think ‘great’ is a bit of a stretch. ‘Ok’ & ‘forgettable’ are words that come to mind for me.

Not that you asked, but I really didn’t like their take on Corellia as this poverty-rampant industrial **** ball. Corellia is arguably the most interesting, vibrant, powerful diverse system in Star Wars, this film really blew it in that regard.

A bunch of other annoying stuff as well but basically I was so shocked it wasn’t miserably terrible I actually enjoyed it.

Corellia is depicted as a world of contrasts in other parts of the canon... Its not like you saw the entire world presented, just the Poverty-Rampant Industrial Slum-Zone that was applicable to a bunch of Thievin' Orphans.
