Full throttle and debris cloud

By Shinren, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello folks!

What happens if a tie-defender moves through a debris cloud while executing a 4 straight maneuver?

Does the full throttle ability activates (so the player can execute a free evade action) before receiving a stress token from the debris cloud?

The timing window of both effects activates at the same time or does one of them activates before?

Thanks a lot!

The debris happens first. No evade for you.

Ok thanks!

Is it explained in the rules references or the rules book?

I've checked them but I wasn't able to find the explanation.

I've checked them but I wasn't able to find the explanation.

It has to do with the timing of the events. When you overlap a debris field, as part of executing the maneuver, you roll for damage and receive a stress token. Only then is the maneuver considered "complete". Full Throttle occurs after you fully execute a maneuver, so by then, you'll be stressed; and, of course, stressed ships can't normally perform actions. If you had a way to prevent yourself from taking said stress token (such as equipping a Collision Detector and spending a charge to ignore the obstacle's effects), then your ability to Full Throttle would be completely unhindered!

(fun fact: asteroids do not prevent the activation of Full Throttle, as they only cause a ship to skip its Perform Action Step!)

Executing a Maneuver has two steps.

  1. Maneuver Ship: During this step, the ship moves using the matching template.

  2. Check Difficulty. This is where a ship might gain or lose a stress token based on the difficulty of the maneuver.

Debris stress happens after Check Difficulty (so a ship on a Blue move doesn't get to immediately remove the stress), but before Executing a Maneuver has been completed.

After the Executing a maneuver has been completed, you'll roll for damage, and use effects like Full Throttle.

The rules are kind of split up.

"Maneuver" and "Obstacles" are on p.13, and Activation Phase (useful for isolating the whole of the Execute Maneuver step in context) is on p. 3.

Thanks a lot emeraldbeacon and thebitterfig!

I believe your answer is yes.

You believe wrong.

why? what you believe is irrelevant unless you present an argument.

again, why? please explain yourself.

Is it necessary?

THe correct answer and a full explanation with timing are in the first three posts.

Going and posting a succinct answer to a technical explanation without a TL;DR is only valuable if the succinct answer is a: correct, and b: not already present.

E: AND the OP already said thanks for said answers.

Because the rules say you can't do it? I mean I could do a longer explanation but people have already done that in this very thread so it seems superfluous at this stage.
