Is there a window after damage is APPLIED during battlefield phase? Or, do you resolve any forced end of turn effects and the next window is at the beginning of the other player's turn?

yeah - at the end of battlefield phase either player may take actions (right after damage is applied to units/capital). This occurs right before end of turn phase.
