I disagree. There's not really any way Finn could have fought her in TFA without either making her appear laughably weak/incompetent or making Finn seem so good that he has nowhere to grow in the following movies. Better to have Finn fight some random grunt first, then Phasma in the second movie (winning only because of fortuitous circumstances), and then fight her again in the third movie, finally defeating her completely.

Having Phasma die three times doesn't sound like a smart plan outside of South Park.

So far, she's died zero times, though.

You must of been watching different movies then me.

Probably. I was watching the Star Wars movies.

In The Force Awakens , we establish that she's on Starkiller Base, and then don't see her again. It's certainly plausible for her to die in its destruction, if the writers wanted to kill her off, but considering how many other characters survive even though they appear on it even later than her last appearance, her dying is not a safe bet.

In The Last Jedi , assuming her death seems a little more reasonable, but we still have a case where her death (if it happened) would take place off screen, and given the fact that she has armor that actually provides some amount of protection (along with the fact that the craft she's aboard doesn't even blow up), it's entirely reasonable for her to survive and reappear in the last episode.

I agree with you.

The fact that Gwendoline Christie wasn't announced alongside other returning cast doesn't bode well but also doesn't prevent her from being announced later on. I'd prefer to see her again. Might as well make it three-for-three. And make her "death" just as ambivalent in this one as well.

So she's not entirely Kenny, but definitely at a Liquid Snake level of silliness.

Maybe, but it looks - at least for the moment - like the main 'first order' bad guys for Resistance is Major Vonreg (the totally-not-the-red-baron-honest) and Pyre, the gold stormtrooper commander. We might see more of Phasma, but I suspect it'll be more like Tarkin in resistance; she's there in cameos but that's about it.

Hopefully with them having Major Vonreg as the red baron it won't stop them from bringing back Fel for the OT era. And that is fair, and makes sense considering that it probably costs more to bring in Gwendaline Cristie to voice Phasma for the segments we get than other characters, that is unless they built something into her contract with the films that she needed to work on this show to a certain extent.

As for Vonreg and Pyre it will be a little bit interesting if they are main antagonists for the series or like the Grand Inquisitor are killed off by the end of the season for more villains to show up, and if that happens what color will the next commander will be.

Things have been cross-referenced before (like the Raider being used as a spec-ops gunship in Battlefront II), but the issue is that:

~ Any 'new' show/book/game tends to want to create its own named 'stars'

~ There are already more than enough resistance pilots (via the films and Black Squadron), and - at least at the moment - there's been little indication we'll see anything following 'generic' First Order pilots.

~ To be honest, even just namechecking the squadron names would be good. I can see Filoni picking things up because he likes using random easter eggs or reworking in older or more obscure bits of the background. The only really iconic First Order pilots (that X-wing players would be asking for - 'iconic' is a relative term because there aren't that many of us) are Omega Leader (which has the whole male/female "Midnight"/"Lockdown" thing) and Quickdraw.

Putting "Quickdraw" in as a special forces pilot would be very cool, though.

I don't need something to follow them, though that would quite possibly make for a cool book or comic series, but a quick name check would be great.

Not familiar with that character, but to me, it just seems standard sci-fi villanry.

Not against vacuum - her helmet was cracked open far enough you could see her face.

If she ended up outside the ship at all, she’s a goner.... unless it’s revealed Phasma can suddenly and inexplicably use the Force at the same level that Leia can.

SHE should have been the one fighting Finn in the first movie and not TR-8R.

The trooper Finn fights outside Maz's castle is FN-2199 aka "Nines"

Why do the other troopers get nicknames, and Finn never had one until Poe came along?

His fellow troopers called him "87"

Honestly, though, Finn is a lazy nickname for an FO storm-trooper. I'm certain that the Resistance probably already knew their call signs were formatted in this way. Finn could work for literally any of them, and even sounds like the kind of thing the Resistance might have called them generically.

Poe: Great pilot, but not terribly creative with names.
