Shihai can be an OoCA, and not only Gaijin Custom, but still, not for Utaku. Utaku are the most Rokugani family we have, and I think that choice is not the right one for an Utaku.

In O5R, a lot of Utaku Battle Maidens had Chinese names or not Japanese-sounding names: Utaku Jin-Lao, Ji-Yun, Hyo-Yeon, Liu-Xeun, Zo Sia, Yisheng, Wakiken, Suying... Shinjo is the most Rokugani family of all Unicorn.

For what I see in the new L5R, Chinese, Korean and Japanese are now all Rokugani, and so now the difference is like nothing. Especially if you read some part in the RPG (like the Scorpion at the Topax champion adventures). And also they talk about the most honorable in all Unicorn, that's probably mean the less Gaijin, and the most Rokugani for me.

Hmm, I think Unicorn does not have good character for conflict deck, so I am hoping for a conflict deck character. Without Influence is ok for me as well!

Really? Haven’t read too much of the RPG, but I don’t remember any Chinese or Korean name in the fictions, outside of the Unicorn.

Well, they have Iuchi Wayfinder, which is a very good card (and a popular splash) to scout provinces, but that’s all. I don’t think people use Ide Messenger any more?

I'm very disappointed. Gajin Custom is a very unpopular card among my playgroup, and I was surprised to see it included in the poll. Basing a theme off one card instead of other more established themes most of which still need fleshing out was a poor choice in my opinion.

It's very unpopular with Unicorn players, because it's only usable by other clans (unless you go heavily neutral in the dynasty deck). I don't think there's another card in the game that is so much better in a splash than in its nominal clan.

In the story that you can play, in the beginner box, the name of the Scorpion clan women is Chinese.

Ide Messeger is very bad, never saw it played. Too much expensive (talking about fate)

I only read the character portfolios of the beginner game (as I don’t plan to purchase it) and the free adventure, and I don’t remember any Chinese name, so this surely must be an exception, not a norm.

I went for High Political, High Glory

I wanted to go EXTREME because of the use of the word EXTREME!!!!!!!!

In the end I stopped at high military because I think EXTREME means a (-) political stat and I need to have at least a 0 to drag her into whatever battle I want.

It's unfortunate that the extreme military option is tied to the huge drawback of having high glory.

Went for balanced with high glory, because Yumino is one of my favorite unicorn cards, but I suspect I will be in the extreme minority here!

Battle Maidens having a theme of high glory isn't exactly a bad idea in my opinion. I sort of expected it. I like it better if the high glory characters either have stats that overwhelm the glory such that they are still useful if dishonored or they have a really good card effect to offset their crippled stats when dishonored. If neither of those things are true then hopefully the card isn't too expensive fate-wise. That's my opinion. I'm leaning toward military focus or balanced with high glory (since extreme military might mean dashed political and that offsets the benefit of having high glory and Unicorn movement). I'm hoping it's on the cheaper side (fate-wise). Also I would assume it's a cavalry character.

I went with a political focus because of the previous "out of clan allies" choice. High glory cause of the Utaku family lineage.

The Burning Sands were mentioned in Way of the Unicorn back in the 1E RPG, and are thus part of the L5R IP. However, all the detail from the Legend of the Burning Sands CCG and RPG book are apparently a separate, LBS, IP.

Yeah, I think I made a mistake with my vote. I voted extreme Military and high glory, but I think I should have gone with balanced and high glory as well, since Utaku Yumino is that way. I guess there's no way to change my vote?

Oh nice. I'm pleasantly surprised. I really did think 'Extreme military' was going to carry the day. It probably would have been a cool card, but it sounds very niche, and I'd like to see a card that could show up in several styles of decks. Here's hoping Unicorn gets a good way to honor their characters, too. Maybe a Court-Games style military card.

Edit: Just saw the Unicorn Clan Pack thread, and it looks like they're getting a nice Steed for one-way Pride. They'll have to win their first battle themselves, but I think battle maidens would only agree that's fair.

Balanced stats are bad in Unicorn. High glory is bad for almost every clan. Together they create the ultimate troll community card!
There's a reason we don't play Yumino.

Even with this new steed, we won't be playing Yumino.

To be honest, I sometimes play Yumino.

Why? Because I love her. And because no one expect her XD. Sometimes it can be very funny. For sure not the best option.

Anyhow, with the new steed I could try to play it. And balanced stats in my opinion are not bad for any clan, if it's 1/1 with a low cost, or if it's 3/3 and not too expensive (Shinjo Tatsuo for example is too expensive with 4 fate. With 3 fate he would be ok).
