Tactical Scrambler

By uscsmurf, in X-Wing

Can someone help me out with tactical scrambler in 2.0? I’ve read the card but I’m having trouble making sense of it. Does the ship I have it on obstruct enemy attacks on my other friendly ships?

Yes.

Functionally yes. Technically not quite.

In 2e, obstruction of an attack just means that the line of the attack goes through a given object. Tactical Jammer means that the obstruction by the equipped ship adds a defence die. The distinction is meaningful if more than one Tac Jammer obstructs a given shot, because they stack in 2e, where in 1e they would not have.

So if I have a large/medium base ship in front of a ship I want to protect, and my opponent wants to shoot the protected ship but the line of attack goes through the tac scrambler ship my protected ship gets an extra dice correct?

Ok cool. Thanks.

Has anyone actually found this upgrade worthwhile? I guess its value increases if your opponent is packing trick shots..

Meh, it mostly causes them to shoot the one packing the scrambler unless it is obstructing a shot to something that the opponent thinks has to die.

Haha thats my impression whenever I start considering it. Anything worth protecting can probably protect itself better by not restricting itself to hanging around a lumbering obstactle.

Nope. Trick shot specifies obstruction by obstacles.

Agreed, but my point was ships with trick shot abuse obstacles as cover negating the protection.. which might be the one time I could see the scrambler being more valuable.

The one decent use I've found for this is on ARC Norra. She wants to be at R1, she's super tanky at R1, and especially if you have something to coordinate her a focus she's totally fine bumping their lead ship. That splits their fire and gives your trailing ships an extra dice. It's not great... but given the occasional odd points holes left by the decent Rebel ships it can be worth the 2 points since getting even extra 1 evade out of it is effectively the same as a shield upgrade

I've found some use for it on U-wings + Blount. Specifically Magva Pilot.

The U-wing moves ahead getting into R1 of enemies and Blount sits behind, getting the extra die for attack and the extra die for re-rolls. Plus you can coordinate a focus, TL on Blount or Barrel Roll him if it helps keep the U between Blount and the enemy.

I am thinking about putting it on Norra for the reasons you mentioned above. I have two points leftover and since I want Norra to be in range 1 anyway and I have cassian to help with action economy it may be worth it. Shoot at Norra with a ship at range 1 or shoot at a ship I’m obstructing? Situational of course, but could be interesting.
