IGV-55 Surveillance Vessel Fan made expansion FEEDBACK AND PLAY-TESTERS WANTED!

By Rcracken7, in Star Wars: Armada

Hello everyone!

If you are like me, then you are dying to get your hands on some new content for this game. For me, just the SSD won’t be enough to sustain my playing because I am a primarily rebel player. Obviously there are still tons of untested, untried combinations to use in this game, but I wanted to get something fresh. So, I began work on a fan wave with three expansions. The first of which is the IGV-55 surveillance vessel. The challenge with this one was making it distinct from the normal gozanti, but I think the design I came up with fills a different role from its brother. I am looking for feedback on the balance of this expansion as well as some volunteers who would like to help me test out the various parts. Enjoy!

First off is the ship itself:

Doesn’t look like much does it? But then again, neither did the first flotillas. The main use of the ship is in the new upgrade slot, The Electronic Retrofit. Lets look at the upgrades of this type included.

This electronic retrofits are what gives the IGV its role. They introduce a new type of token, the intel token, which has no effect other than what its upgrade cards give it. These upgrades put the IGV into more of an offensive support role rather than the often defensive focused Gozantis. With these upgrade cards you can better screen against enemy squadrons, hand out accuracies or con fire tokens to friendly ships or just mess with an enemy ship’s defense and command tokens.

Additionally, the IGV comes with two titles to strengthen its support role:

Sleuth is a little restricted to the long range scanners upgrade card, but when combined, the IGV gives you some serious control over an enemy ship. Messenger is a solid title to help you keep your fleet together and responsive.

Finally, there are a couple more upgrades to fill out this “expansion pack”:

The controller is a slightly better sw-7 for your entire fleet. He isnt flashy, but he can some serious damage over the course of a game. Alton Kastle was designed specifically to help low squadron fleets compete with sloane, reikan, or other squadron heavy fleets during deployment. Counterplan specialist is a support team designed to go on smaller ships who are just there to help out the heavy hitters. Finally, Jamming core is another way to help fight against squadron fleets.

So what do you all think. This pack is the least flashy out of the wave, but I do think that it adds an interesting support ship to the Empire, a faction that is kind of lacking in terms of support ships. Once again, let me know what you think balance wise, and also I would greatly appreciate it if a couple of people helped me test all of this stuff out, let me know if you are interested. My ultimate goal is to have this entire wave at the point where anyone can pick it up and play with it if they are getting bored with the current roster, and not have to worry about anything being useless or OP. So if anyone would like to help me with this goal, speak up. Next up, I am going to show you the other flotilla in the wave... The long awaited dornean gunship.

Thanks and have a good one!

I skimmed through your cards and think you have good ideas. I might even think tracer shot is a bit too good for 1 upgrade card, I would reduce its cost by 2 and just keep the first half of its effect. I'm not a fan of the ship because it just looks like a gozanti with antennas, but overall you did a pretty good job. Might wanna find another word for intel as we already have "intel" for intel squadrons and intel officers... might cause some confusion.

I thought Alton Kastle would only fit on medium or big ship as these lists are usually the ones suffering more from deployment disadvantage.

Jamming core sounds OP xD

I quite like these. I'd change Sleuth personally since it only works with one upgrade and will basically be a must take with it.

Tracer shot needs some wording clear up but I like the idea.

adv. slicer tools are a bit odd. The range seems like an odd choice and the effect is meh. Guess it could stack well with raid or something though.

I like Kastle.

First of all, I really like the idea. I haven't cared much for flotillas lately, but this could change that. I have been analyzing the math behind the game for some time now, so my feedback will be based on my findings. Please bear in mind that my figures are only approximations!!

I think Advanced Slicer Tools is completely OP. A Repair token is worth about 4.51 for the Alliance, a Fire token is about 3.63. Taking out a couple of those can really jack things up for your opponent.

Tracer Shots: killing a Brace is worth about 9.02+. Helping kill a Brace should be worth about half that.

2 Fire tokens are worth 6.76 to the Empire, so having a .44 chance on 2 Fires is worth about 2.96.

Point Def Mines look like fun. 2 dmg to an Alliance Squad is worth about 5.16 (7.42 for Uniques). they just have to be stupid (or desperate) enough to fly into the mines.

Sleuth may be a bit OP. Depends a lot on the target ship. A Contain is worth only about 1.94 to the Alliance.

Counterplan Specialist looks powerful, depending on the timimg!

If The Controller produces 6 hits, he easily pays his cost (a hit on an Alliance ship is worth about 4.51 on average). 24 Blues should produce 6 Accs.

Is this available in a printable package?

Fine work on your part!!

How about giving it a relay option?

I like this and I hope FFG expand upon the flotilla class. Much of my observations echo that of the above commentators;

I'd suggest changing Advanced Slicer Tools, with a rename. Maybe Communication Jammers and bumping up the price.

Not really keen on more choosing and spending defense tokens as seen on Tracer Shots. There are already many options for this effect.

Sleuth is far too cheap, similar to a 7 point intel officer, but works for the entire fleet. And it would basically be stapled to Long range scanners, which is a poor design.

Jamming core may be more balanced if it simply reduced the squadron value of ships by 1.

Counter-plan specialist would help Nebulon Bs, which is a plus in my books. However its name sounds more like a crew and not a support team. Maybe Listening Team.

I need to look at this more but I am intrigued as I have a set of these from Mel's Miniatures.

Initially I think "The Controller" is OP as a Blue Die effect, I think it would be more balanced as a Red Die effect.

Otherwise I need time to sit and think about the cost/effect balance. I think at their current costs some of the abilities might be a little OP.

Nice job though!

Yea the Controller is dumb cause he works on anti squadron too.

First off thank you all for the fantastic feedback!

Some of the general takeaways I got from you guys are

1. The controller is a bit OP. I didn’t even think about his interaction with anti-squadron attacks, and I think he needs a points boost.

2. Tracer shots needs some tweaking. I’m still trying to decide what to do with this one, but it will be changed in some way shape or form.

3. Sleuth is too strong and too limited. I will work on a change for this.

4. Jamming core is OP, I think I will go with Divad’s suggestion and make it simply reduce the squadron value by one, and I will probably up the cost a little bit.

5. Alton Kastle was received positively, but I like Sybreed’s suggestion on making it a bit more restricted.

6. Advanced slicer tools got mixed reactions, so I will look into this one a but more.

7. A few of you suggested name changes, so I will be tweaking some of the names.

I will get back to you all with the changes I make. Again, thanks for the input!

Sort of... Its all on https://kdyards.com/index.php under the user rconn0, but I haven’t been able to compile it all under one “expansion” on the website because that feature is restricted to donors. Regardless, everything here can be printed from Kuat Driveyards, and the models are made by mel’s miniatures.

This does seem very thematic, maybe make it a ship title, it should also be restricted to Squads within Close-Medium of the IGV-55 (No Boosted Comms synergy, and no Relay Jumping) It does feel just like Centercore now though... Maybe allow Expanded Hanger Bay to Synergize with it.

*TITLE*

When another Friendly Ship Resolves a Squadron command a number of Squadrons up to your Squadron value may be activated if within close-medium range of you.

Again it is only slightly different then Centercore now but I think by the nature of the ship it may be more useful then Centercore currently is, especially if you can get Tua and ECM's on the IGV-55.

Arquitens already has a relay-like title.

But maybe strategic on a ship would be interesting.

That is a good point, Strategic could be a cool mechanic on a ship.
