Vassal for Linux

By Hoarder of Garlic Bread, in X-Wing

I used to run Vassal on Windows, and despite the "Eek! Vassal encountered a bug!", it was playable most of the time. Recently, I converted my machine to a Linux one, and although I am enjoying it far more than I would have had I remained on Windows, I can't get the latest version of Vassal to work for it. When it opens x-wing 8.2.0, it crashes without even getting to the check for content screen. I've tried installing the Windows version and having Wine run it (and it is a very dependable version of Wine), but the installer gets caught up in a Java error.

Does anybody run Vassal on Linux, and what OS do you use to do it? Is this a problem with the program and the module, my system, or my installation? Thanks for any help.

Have you looked into wine? (It’s a Windows-app-on-Linux application)

I haven't fired up vassal for a little while but I have played in 2 leagues using vassal on Linux Mint. I will try the latest version sometime soon and see if I have any issues.

Oh and congrats on upgrading your system! :)

The sad part is I did and somehow missed it entirely in my scan.

Doh.

I also had no issues running vassal in mint (apart from tiny font sizes on my laptop screen), but that was about a year ago. I've been running the windows version since.
