Cikatro reads:

" During the End Phase, you choose 2 Upgrade illicit upgrades equipped to friendly ships at range 0-1. If you do, you may exchange these upgrades.

End of Game: Return all Upgrade illicit upgrades to their original ships. "

My question is as follows:

If Cikatro is exchanging upgrades on two friendly ships is the range requirement that they should be at range 0-1 of:

- each other

- the ship carrying Cikatro

?

My belief is that the two ships doing the exchange need to be at range 0-1 of the ship with Cikatro and the range between them doesn't matter (it could even be range 3 in theory). Is that right?

I would play it as the ships need to be Range 0-1 of the ship carrying Cikatro. I am basing that off when using card abilities, usually the range requirement applies to the ship that card is equipped to.

Having said that, the wording on Cikatro is a bit vague. You could make a case that the two ships just need to be range 0-1 of each other. I bet this will be addressed in a future FAQ.

Yeah - that's what I've been assuming all along but someone questioned it the other night. I tried to make sure both conditions were met to avoid any controversy but it would be good to be sure for the future

There is no confusion, ability never say at "range x-y of you". They always just say at "range x-y".

Example:

0-0-0: "At the start of the Engagement Phase, you may choose 1 enemy ship at range 0-1"
Jam Action: "Choose an enemy ship at range 1"

So, Cikatro care about ship at range 0-1.... of him, like everything else

They would have changed the wording if it meant something else, like: "at range 0-1 of each other"...

Can you think of other instances of abilities that involve interactions between two ships that do not have the upgrade card?

Also Ruthless (emphasis mine):

Thanks, those are great examples and emphasize @muribundi 's point that if it meant something different to range of Cikatro it would have said so explicitly.
