Flight Group Alpha, Imperial Co-op for X-wing 2.0 released

By TreatAsRange2, in X-Wing

Flight Group Alpha v203 brings Imperial POV Co-op to X-wing 2.0. Developed to faithfully follow the storyline of the award-winning TIE Fighter PC game, this campaign follows a group of academy pilots as they struggle to become aces in the Imperial Navy. FGA v203 contains 7 missions.

Flight Group Alpha uses HotAC 0.7 fundamental game mechanics as base, but new AI’s for Scum and Rebel ships have been developed based on changes for these ships for X-wing 2.0: the new arcs, the new dials and action bar changes. Pilot progression has been adapted to X-wing 2.0 as well, bringing in the new imperial pilot abilities, new upgrades and the all-new force powers.

Ooh, definitely want to check this out!

I hope FFG makes an AI app for X-wing much like decent and Imperial Assault (but not before they fix their current App).

If I may make a suggestion, in order to make Rebels Act different from Imperials in terms of flying and target priority. Have the rebels use the target lock as what guides their maneuver selection instead of closest target. You could aslo add a simple agro such as rolling a crit that can get the rebel's pilot attention and use it to draw heat off your allies. This was something I tried out when trying to make Scum advesaries for ATOC. Here are the charastics I came up with.

Imperials ( Empire, 1st Order, Clones, Droids )

  • Maneuver Selection: Closest Target
  • Action Priority: Acquiring target, Better chance of Hitting, avoiding hit
  • Bug Out: Never

Rebels ( Alliance, Resistance, Jedi )

  • Maneuver Selection: Locked Target, Closest Target
  • Action Priority: Better chance of hitting, avoiding a hit
  • Bug Out: last point of damage

Scum ( S&V , Sith )

  • Maneuver Selection: Locked Target, Expensive Ship
  • Action Priority: Avoiding Hit, acquiring a target, better chance to hit
  • Bug Out: Shields down or damaged ship.

The AI for Front Arc (not bulseye) still turns way too much

Edit: My group will probably need to redo the AI cards significantly. Do you have the graphics used, or will we be forced to use image-manip?

Ah! Looking forward to giving it a spin.

The regulars at my store aren't really interested in a campaign. Is the campaign balanced well for a single player? Alternatively, are there any players near Dayton, OH who are interested in a group?

Yeah, honestly, I'm rather burned out on 200-point games, and I've been wanting to try missions or campaigns since I started playing a year and a half ago. I guess I could just fly several ships myself to still get that flight group feel.

I have indeed been inspired by your suggestions for 2.0 AI’s. The Imperial AI’s are improving steadily due to input from the HotAC 2.0 testing. The Rebel and Scum AI’s are all using locked target as target for next turn. I am currently in the process of diversifying the Scum AI’s from the Rebel ones, as the Scum get more screen time in Tour of Duty 2. Even though both Scum and Rebel Z-95 are Threat Level 1 ships I would like them to have different behavior. Not much, but distinct. I am kind of sad the Black Market Slicer Tools are not included in 2 nd edition. It was a perfect fit for scum z-95 in 1.0, IMHO.

Thanks!

I recommend flying 3 ships if you are playing this solo. It's pretty easy since the flight group always consist of ships with the same ship type. I have never actually tried it with 1 ship. I would believe it is quite difficult. Having the 1 player option is a legacy from HotAC 0.7.

Good idea. I'll save the solo flight for later, when I have to show a couple recruits how to clear a minefield in an unshielded TIE.
